    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I've really enjoyed my internship at RBS. I've been given the opportunity to learn lots about my specific team (Real Estate) by getting involved in different deals, but also to see opportunities for me within the wider bank. We've had individual tasks and group activities so the work is really varied.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • I have felt really valued by my colleagues, I feel like they've really invested time into me and actually believe we are all the future of the bank. Everyone I've spoken to has been really interested in me and I've been to coffees with people from all over the bank to really get an insight into their experiences, and lots of people have been happy to speak to me and help me.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • We have regular one to ones to formally assess progress but we have had casual coffees and things just to see how I am. My manager is checking up on me and always says I can get hold of him when I need to as he is away from the office quite a lot on client meetings. He also delegated people in the office to help me too- so there is always someone there.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • There is always something to do, but I really haven't been swept off my feet. The work isn't too challenging either for us. This has been good because it has also given me the opportunity to spend time in other teams or with other people, and I'm able to attend extra events like a talk on our well being or an innovation breakfast.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I wasn't given that much responsibility because of the nature of how big the clients are I guess. But I have assisted on big deals and helped with the background things that improve customer relations. The charity challenge day and the individual presentation allowed me to be independent and more responsible for my own time too.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I've learnt loads, I really feel that my knowledge of banking and the property sector has improved dramatically which will be really useful in future. Not only that, I've learnt really valuable transferable skills like how to network and to work in a corporate environment, presentation and time management skills.
