    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship as I had the opportunity to learn all about audit and the different types of work I would get to do on a day to day basis. I always had lots of things to do and the people were all so welcoming and enthusiastic about their jobs. KPMG really is a lovely place to work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were always there to help me if I ever needed some. They answered any questions I had and kept me occupied with lots of work which was enjoyable as it gave me the chance to see what I would be doing if I get the job. Everyone was welcoming and treated me nicely.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had meetings with my performance manager every week which involved setting goals for my placement. This was great as it enabled me to see where I could improve. Support was always given if I asked for it and my I'm charges were willing to advise me on any issue that I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had lots of work to do which was good as I've heard that interns at other firms spend a lot of their time bored and clock watching. I went out to clients sites at least twice a week and also worked hard in the office. I did get a lot of work but it wasn't too demanding.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was able to assist on the audit of a major client and meet them at their office. I also shadowed partners and directors and attended meetings while representing the firm which gave me a good insight into the career I could have.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do a degree in accounting and finance so I think that the internship will help me a lot! It's given me a passion for my degree and taught me the necessity of working hard and being precise with calculations. I hope to be able to improve my degree classification as a result of this.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fantastic!! Everyone was so lovely and chatty and they made me feel included in the team. I expected there to be silence but there were lots of conversations, not just about work which brought a friendly feel to the job which was nice. There was a good camaraderie between colleagues and there was lots of support available.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very structured - I knew where I was going to be every day as someone had prepared a schedule for me. The values day gave a very good introduction to the firm and made me excited for my internship. There were lots of socials planned beforehand so I had the opportunity to integrate with people.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were some online training courses that I had to complete which weren't that useful but the main aspect of training came with the people I was working with. Any questions I had were well answered and I always felt like there was someone there to answer any queries I had.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future prospects within kpmg seem to be amazing! Once you are qualified I've heard that you can move all around the world if that's what you want to do. It all seems to be very flexible and I love that. Promotion isn't based on age, but instead on merit which is also good.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was good. I was invited to socialise with my colleagues on a few occasions and there was also a vacation scheme social arranged by student recruitment. I also ate lunch with the other interns regularly and we had lots of time to bond with each other during our internships.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in London so it was pretty expensive. Managed to find a cheap place to rent though so it didn't turn out to be too bad. Socialising was a lot cheaper than I expected and the subsidised canteen is brilliant as it meant I could spend less money on food.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not relevant but I heard the nightlife scene in London is good.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
