    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very enjoyable internship, as a result of my line managers initiative. They Did not want us to focus on one business area and rather wanted us to meet and shadow different teams within the bank. As a result of which which, I was able to gain a broader insight into projects and teams.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I worked in relied on me to deal with customer queries via email and phone call. In addition to this, I was given significant projects that would go into practise to deal with and follow through upon. This included contacted several regional directors to get the best insights and answers.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly meetings to determine areas of good work and areas which I could improve upon.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Daily I had plenty of work to do. This was as a result of working on several projects with several regional directors. Therefore, I was required to manage my time effectively to complete all of the projects within a timely manner but also to the best of my ability for the best results.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Working with different relationship directors and executives to think of new ideas as well as analysis work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working with different teams has provided me with insights not seen before. To become more cynical when taking things for face value - particularly financials. These teams have allowed me to understand concepts in further detail, which would not be taught at educational levels and can actually be applied to the real world situation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Within the office, teams had different atmospheres/cultures. Within my team the assistants were often engaging and chatting to one another but due to the role of directors, who were mainly on client meetings, they weren’t often seen for prolonged periods. Some teams could be quite loud, but this is simply the nature of office culture.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The line managers I had were particularly organised as they had extensive experience within the graduate and internship projects. They have been able to determine areas which work and do not work over this time, to ensure the best possible programme has been delivered. And I’m this case this was achieved.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company was particularly encouraging of personal development. As a result of this, weekly online sessions were put on, in which we could dial into and listen to professionals talk about certain topics. This allowed us to develop our personal skills to the best of the companies capacity at the time.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Following the internship programme, I have every faith that with the rotation programme in place, the company is in the best position to develop myself beyond the internship. I am going to be able to improve on the skills I need to be the best banker possible while gaining a insight into the different areas.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Plenty of graduates within the bank who were engaging and willing to help the interns. They were more than happy to organise socials to allow the interns to meet the graduates. As of which the graduates and interns had developed a good social scene outside of work, but also inside.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so this was not an issue. However, being a student area you are able to find properties for approximately £400-£800 per month depended on location. Fortunately your salary would compensate for this and it would be dependent on finding your own accommodation for the right price.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The graduates within the bank were particularly helpful in organising events with fellow employees. However l, there are a lot of charity projects that are sponsored by the bank. Asa a result of which, you are always being asked if you would like to help out the team in making a difference!.
