    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement with Mundipharma Research. It was a great first insight into the Pharmaceutical company and an amazing first experience with a professional company and working team. I was given many opportunities to shadow various teams and departments to gain a full picture of how the company worked as a whole. My team welcomed me and made me feel like a valuable asset giving me my own responsibilities and roles.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues valued all of my opinions and ideas. I was treated as a member of the team and not just a student with no experience in the industry. They really appreciated having a set of fresh eyes and encouraged me to join their product team meetings and have my input on any team decisions.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support I was given by my manager and team was excellent. I never felt stuck or uncomfortable that I couldn't ask questions. I was able to ask for help when needed and not feel like a burden. The team were always happy to help and give me any needed guidance. My team gave me support and really helped me to gain experience in various areas of the company which really made my time at Mundipharma unique.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My workload fluctuated on a daily basis. I enjoyed my job most when I was busy and really getting involved in different projects and felt like I was really helping the team out. However, there were day when I felt I could have been more proactive when I didn't have much to do, on the other hand there was always someone I could offer a helping hand too so always kept myself busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given my own labeling responsibilities and own products which I worked on mainly. However I would usually get my manager or a team member to help look over or review my work just for confidence of what I was doing. At the start of my placement I wasn't given too many responsibilities which was good as I didn't feel overloaded and out of my comfort zone.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have gained and developed my Excel and Word skills dramatically. I feel very confident when using Excel now which will really help me in my final year of University, especially when it comes to lab work and write ups. I have also really gained some confidence which has helped my communication skills and team working skills. This is valuable for team work at university such as group presentations etc.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very friendly and welcoming when I joined the department. There is always someone to speak to and always someone to go to if you have any sort of questions. There is usually a high moral in the office which really helped for example if I made a mistake then there was always someone from my team who would help me recover from it and not let me feel down about it. The project teams are always working well together and have good communication between each member making it an enjoyable environment to work in.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised by the company. I was given a great induction day and was introduced to the department and my team it a way which made me feel comfortable and not out of place. I always had someone to go to if I had any questions about my placement. The contract was sent to me very efficiently and experienced no problems with the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training was good and available when needed. A lot of my responsibilities had self train videos which I could play when I needed even for a refresher. My team were always willing to show me anything I needed or take me for demonstrations. My team always encouraged me to develop my skills and even got me to write a training document for others and help train others in the company e.g. by teleconference.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work with Mundipharma Research again in the future. The opportunites within the company are amazing and everyone is so willing to help you and further your understanding. I would really like to explore more ares of the company further if I was to come back and see the company from a different perspective.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, the placement students always ate lunch together and we met up outside of work to have dinner and so on. Everyone is friendly and we even arranged to live together. The company helped us find housing and set up a day for all students to look around for houses together.
