    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight day. Although the day was structured we were asked what questions we would like answered during the day which meant that I got from the day what I wanted which made it more enjoyable. The amount of time we were given to network with the other attendees also made the atmosphere very relaxed and comfortable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at BP. With two hosts dedicated to the day they were willing to answer any questions or help with any issues we had. They also informed us of all the benefits we may recieve if we are successful in the application process which showed how valued we would be as employees also.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • As previously, with two dedicated hosts we had complete guidance and support throughout the day. We were provided with breaks and a goid amount of time at lunch. Those of us travelling back to the airport were then given assistance in arranging for a taxi which would come quickly to their premises.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information recieved on the application and interview process will be very helpful when applying to the internship. The practice interview session has improved my interview skills which I'm sure will help not only for BP but for every employer. The talks given both the graduates and the more senior member of staff were both informative and inspirational

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was very well structured with an agenda being presented to us in the morning which detailed what we would do during the day. This was interrupted by an unexpected fire alarm but all activites were still completed. The structure used also allowed time for any extra questions we had to be worked in which was great.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was very informal but efficient. Having time to talk to my fellow students meant that the day felt very relaxed. This made it a great atmosphere to learn about the company in a pressure and stress free enviornment with enough going on to keep us busy and thinking.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given a presentation on what to expect from their application process and then also which format we could use to ensure we present the best presentation possible. This suggests they were investing in us by showing us how to apply for their roles in a way they recommend. We were also given time to practice interview skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It really helped in understanding what a full time role would be like as they took in 3 different graduates to speak to us. These graduates each had different engineering degrees and had gone into different areas of the business hence giving us a wider scope for what is available as part of the full time graduate scheme.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The talk from the more senior member of staff allowed for a good understanding of the company culture. He spoke about how the company is changing to stay ahead in the new energy trends and what opportunites are available for those who stay within the business for the duration of their career.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was quite valuable in helping decide on future career path. Although it was an extremely helpful day and has made me inspired to work extremely hard on getting into the internship programme I am also aware of the intense competition. This means that it helped me decide that it is a job I would like to see myself doing.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The expenses should be reimbursed within 6 weeks of the claim being made. Since I travelled by plane from Scotland I had to email to recieve clearence for my expenses before I booked anything as it was over their intial £100 claim level. I then later recieved an email saying that nothing over £150 would be covered which was not enough to cover my flight and then taxis.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was plenty opportunity to hear from employees and ask them questions following their presentations however there wasn't the opportunity to sit and chat with them before or after on a more indiviual premise. The more senior member of staff also left straight after his presentation. The graduate recruiters however who ran the event were available all day.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • As previously mentioned, the opportunites to network with the staff wasn't really available. However, there was plenty of time to get to know the felllow attendees which was very interesting. This allowed the opportunity to discuss classes and what extra curriculars people have been getting involved in during their time at university.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We found out very little about what was available outside of the workplace. This was perhaps because the day was more based around giving an insight of the company and its graduate programme rather than life after that. I'm sure if the question was presented to the hosts they would be more than happy to discuss it.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would 100% recommend this insight to a friend. It is a great oppportunity to ask as many questions as possible in an environment much mroe relaxed than through an email. It also gives you the chance to take part in activities set up by the recruiters. It is a great day and I would thoroughly recommend applying.
