  • Brilliant placement!

  • Always free to ask questions and friendly enviroment meant other members within department were also helpful

  • At times the job was very busy, but on the whole it had the perfect balance!

  • I was given a lot of responsibility, allowed to work on chemistry which I may not have been allowed to at university, this helped in my learning

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Its only now that I appreciate the extent of what I learnt in industry, this is truely a skills for life gaining experience. It helped lay foundations in my chemistry knowledge and improved my understanding of practical chemistry

  • Great work ethos, very chatty members, never a dull moment

  • The company has a placement/intern initiative in place, as a result everything is well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of time invested into personal development, had the option of attending various courses for this. Had various other opportunities within the department, such as the chance to speak at conferences, which aided confidence e.t.c

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • In the current economical climate, most companies within the chemistry sector are not hiring a great deal of graduates, however there are graduate schemes in place which I worth applying for.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Most of the students lived in the vicinity, thus everybody met every so often for drinks/ food. Within the department/colleagues we used to have nights out for meals in London and drinks - was brilliant!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Depending on the night outs the costs varied, however I never really felt that I was over spending!

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Various clubs/bars/restaurants in the local vicinity with a fairly decent range

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Theres obviously activities running everywhere within the town, just a matter of getting out there to find what you like. A lot of people joined running clubs e.t.c. The company also took part in orange days, in which the department as a whole would take a day off work and go help out at a charity or do some group bonding activities as well.
