Spring Intern Review

I throughly enjoyed this insight at Unilever! It was a fantastic learning opportunity and I am so grateful for this opportunity, especially as I now have a place on the summer internship as a result of my performance on the insight programme. There was a great atmosphere throughout the insight and it was a very enjoyable couple of days.

Despite the short time I spent at the company, I felt extremely well valued throughout my time at Unilever. The graduate recruitment team made the effort to get to know our names and more about us as individuals, which made me feel very valued. Furthermore, senior staff took the time to run sessions and give presentation, demonstrating the value of the insight scheme to the company.

I felt well supported throughout the insight scheme at Unilever! Before starting the insight programme, HR was very supportive and answered all my questions promptly. When on the programme, I always felt that I could openly talk to staff and they provided very useful and beneficial career guidance and support.

Whilst I do not think the knowledge that I developed will be directly applicable to my degree, the transferable skills that I developed will certainly benefit me in the future. On this insight, I developed my confidence in public speaking, as well as my networking skills, and I will absolutely use these skills going forward.

I found the insight to be very well structured! There was frequent communication before beginning the programme so that everyone was clear on the structure of the insight and I really appreciated this as it meant I could be as best prepared as possible. Whilst on the insight programme, the activities were well structured and I cannot fault the organisation of this programme!

There was a really great general atmosphere on this insight programme! The interns immediately bonded well as a group, which instantly put me at ease, providing for a relaxed atmosphere. Furthermore, the staff at Unilever were some of the most friendly people I have ever met and this was reflective of the atmosphere and culture at the firm.

As this was a three day insight programme, we did not have any specific training as such, however it was clear to see just how much time, money and effort Unilever had invested into this insight programme. Every single activity and session was aimed at our personal development and I have left the insight more confident and knowledgable.

The insight was very beneficially in helping me to understand what it would be like to have a full time role at Unilever. We had plenty of opportunities to speak with employees about day to day life at the company and there was a number of presentation given on 'Life at Unilever'.

The insight was very beneficial in helping me to understand more about the company culture. Unilever is extremely proud of its heritage, values and ethos and there was a strong focus on this throughout the insight programme. We had a number of presentations on the 'Unilever Sustainable Living Plan' which underpins most of its work and is core to the culture at the firm.

I found the content to be extremely valuable. The insight at Unilever opened my eyes to so many different business functions and career paths, especially ones that I had not yet considered. I have come away with a better understanding of the career path that I wish to pursue and the content was key to this.

I was reimbursed my travel expenses and accommodation and food was provided throughout the insight programme.

There were so many different opportunities for formal and informal networking on this insight!

I found all of the networking and social events to be really enjoyable and I got a lot out of each event.

Yes, there are so many different activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. At Unilever, there is a strong emphasis on maintaining a healthy work/life balance and therefore there is a free gym on site, with an array of fitness classes. Furthermore, there are plenty of volunteering opportunities for employees to take part in.
