    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The Insight was one of the best choices I have made so far in my career since it provided the best opportunity for me to get an insight into the culture of Morgan Stanley. I have also glimpsed what their full-time employees are doing and how they are operating the company. On top of this, they have even provided lectures on finance. I would definitely encourage everyone to take the step of applying to one of their Spring Weeks.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I must admit the overall feeling that Morgan Stanley left with me was one of pure professionalism. Each of us felt that we were, in fact, a part of the firm, even though we were there for just a few days. They have met and exceeded my expectations and I cannot stress how important feeling valued is to me inside a company. It really does make the difference both to your state of mind and to how you perceive the work environment.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • In terms of support, I would say that we were all helped with the certain tasks they had thrown at us. From the point of view of how Morgan Stanley operates and how one can enroll in their graduate programs, we have all received the basic piece of information everybody can already find on their website.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Coming from a field with Computer Science, I must say that coming to Morgan Stanley was something new. Not only did I learn more about finance (which was a great new thing to discover and work on) but I actually received a quick advice over how to improve my presentation skills, which inside my field is one of the key things to consider and be good at while delivering your product to users.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I have nothing to complain about this part, only to praise MS for their professionalism and organisational skills. They were prompt, right on schedule and in all of the times, they have shown they were glad to have us there, which made us all feel comfortable and welcomed into their company.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I would use the word "strict". Everybody seemed to be maybe too professional at some point. The opinion I have formed about the some f the poeple there is that to some, any conversation may be compared to striking a deal between 2 businesses, which, in turn, coming from an investment bank is something to be expected. Though, one might stress the fact that it may not be as good have this mindset at all times. It depends on the kind of person you are and what you are expecting from the poeple you meet.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Well, at some point in time I have really felt bombarded with the amount of information they were throwing at us. It is to my best belief that MS really took the step into going the extra mile to provide us all with the finance lectures since all of the insight revolved around this topic in various ways.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 100%. By doing sessions with the full-time employees we have seen different work environments: from the rather large and busy ones to the small and quiet. Each had its own ups and downs but as far as we have seen it, all the employees seemed to be happy to work for MS and they would consider remaining in this company for a longer period of time.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It provided the best opportunity for this, I would say. From meeting and talking to sponsors to discussing Computer Science topics with employees, I believe that MS really tried in this Insight to give us the broader perspective and try to show all all the kinds of people they have inside their company.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I really liked the fact that they do inolve in volunteering activities, so, for me, this was a winner. I, myself, beinga long-time volunteer I felt closer to the company seeing that it also echoes this mindset: giving to others and it is "part of their DNA" - a very true statement. Considering all the activities we have been provided, I would definetely consider a future career path into Computer Science with business/finance related topics.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Every time. They have really tried to make networking meetings as simple and fluid as possible. Initially we have met the sponsors, then some important people from MS (from various backgrounds) and, in the end, we had a nice dinner with all of them, which felt most of the time like a lecture one would die to get to.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very pleasant and excellently organised. From the little chats in the morning to the dinner event, all proved to be excellently crafted. They have been preparing indeed a long time before this, which really showed its results and definteley has exceeded my expectations. Overall, I would say that the atmosphere from the networking sessions was very friendly, but, at the same time, professional.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, again, volunteering is one of them. Morgan Stanley employees are deemed to be "odd" if they don't involve themselves in some sort of volunteering activity. There are organised events in which th emajority of people are involed, but there are also the ones who are dedicated to a standalone NGO (or do both :) )

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, of course, I've already said this quite a few times already. The insight is a great opportunity for everyone to make a first impression on the firm since it provides a glimpse into day to day life of full-time employees and, at the same time, it shows the company you are interested in them, so they will be interested in you too.
