    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Really fun, great variety of things to do such as work shadowing, insights into different parts of the company and a trip to RISE which is where Barclays helps start ups. I found the shadowing the most enjoyable as I was able to learn about data science which is something not taught in my degree so that's pretty cool.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Everyone was so approachable. The two people I work shadowed were very supportive and helpful in answering all the questions I had for them. Even the people who were high up would spare time to talk to you. My interviewer at the end of the week was really nice and we had a good chat which I didn't expect from an interview.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The two people organising the insight were very easy going and would answer any questions we had. They made sure that you always new what you were doing during the insight week. The graduates that came in to talk to us were also very supportive and helped us with out group presentations as well.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the insight sessions turned into motivational talks about how to succeed in life and the speakers gave great advice which I reckon will probably stick with me. I'm also interested in data science and some of the stuff I learned during the shadowing session about it will be very useful in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Each day was different and the organisers made sure that each session we did was useful and engaging. I liked the variety of different activities, especially the trip to RISE and the work shadowing. there was never any waiting round and all the events were pretty seamless with speakers arriving on time which was good.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone whether they worked at Barclays or were participants on the insight were very approachable. All the participants wanted to be there and so there was a good atmosphere when we were ever completing tasks as everyone wanted to do well. Furthermore everyone was really nice and wanted to get to know each other.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Everyone I met was very helpful in answering any questions I had and everyone made time if you wanted to chat with them. The people that gave insight sessions into Barclays were very helpful and often provided good life lessons which I reckon will probably stick with me after the insight.

    5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • All the speakers at the insight session were open to chat about their lives at Barclays which provided a great insight into the roles they play at Barclays. Furthermore the work shadowing gave me great opportunity to talk to people on the graduate program and find out why they decided to join and what they do on a day to day basis.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I had a lot of exposure to life at Barclays in the form of work shadowing sessions and we also spent two days at Barclays 1 Churchill place which was great to experience company culture. everyone was really chill and very approachable which was something that everyone on the insight week commented on

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Even before the insight week I hadn't properly considerd working in a bank and I was more interested in tech companies. The week was really engaging and completely changed my opinion of working in a bank and I would now definitely consider it as a proper career option for me in tech.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Up to 250 for travel

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Lots of opportunities. One day there were grads who came round to help us with our projects and also it provided a chance to network. There was a senior speed networking session where we could talk to a variety of employees who were quite high up. There was also a big evening networking session with lots of different employees on the Wednesday.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Great fun. Everyone was easy to talk to and it provided a valuable insight into life at Barclays. Made a couple of connections on LinkedIn who I feel like I could talk to in the future if I needed help in my career. Also good food and drink helped a bit.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I know that Barclays hosts educational events for their employees like a workshop on AI. I found out that if people wanna go out they normally organise it in their teams rather than having Barclays doing it for them and this can be from dinner to drinks at the giant robot which is a pretty cool place.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely it was great fun. Even if you aren't initially interested in banking or finance but you like tech then I suggest you should do it. It completely changed my opinion of working at a bank- although Barclays may be the exception. Everyone is so chill and relaxed and there's lots of opportunities to do a variety of things in tech from data science and AI to app development.
