    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was really enjoyable as I worked as part of a friendly team, was able to attend various events and was able to find out more about the company and the work it does. However, my project task was mostly desk research and meant I couldn't really interact with others as much as I'd had liked to.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were constantly supportive and helpful, and made me feel valued to be part of the team. However, I often felt like my project/tasks were unrelated to their work so it was difficult to feel accomplished or valued on a daily basis. I guess it would have been better if I was able to know more about their work and how I could get involved.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were constantly supportive, being ready to review my work or answer any questions I had. They also made sure I was reaching my personal development targets by having weekly one-to-ones to discuss my progress. However, I wish they had set some deadlines for my work and had shared some more information about my project tasks as I often felt like I was not making much progress.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a project to complete and took part in intern fundraising opportunities.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had a project to complete, which meant engaging with others in the company, holding meetings, visiting external companies, meeting deadlines, researching extensively, collating my findings on spreadsheet and presenting my findings to stakeholders. I was also responsible for making suggestions/recommendations for the company so I had a lot of responsibilities.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have built my confidence massively as I was able to engage with a lot of people across the organization, build relations and also work in an office environment. I've also developed my skills massively in terms of project management, influencing and decision making skills, analytical and problem solving skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and relaxed environment. Flexible as to when you can come in to the office and leave. Also flexible in terms of whether you wanted to work from home a particular day. Nice being able to talk and discuss things with others whilst at your desks and also move around.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although I was given a project to run, by the end of it I found it difficult to meet some objectives to a standard I would have preferred. This was because I was not fully briefed about my tasks and was left on my own vices to figure out what I was doing.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were CV skills workshops, Linked-in sessions, a 'Dragon's Den' style pitching project, intern fundraising opportunities and a mentoring/buddying scheme. So I do believe that the company aimed to make sure we got the most out of our time and made those efforts to make sure we were receiving a depth of advice and opportunities.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's very competitive to get a position and there are no graduate or entry level jobs on my team as it is mainly senior managers. However, the company offers a range of roles in various different departments and I believe the internship has given a me real feel and understanding of the organization.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Brilliant fundraising projects and socials. Very good opportunities to get involved and make friends by going out for after work drinks or arranging social events for the whole team. Also, colleagues were very welcoming and took us for a welcome lunch to get to know more about them and us.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • With a limited lunch budget it was not that difficult finding something to eat for lunch with many supermarkets nearby such as Boots, Waitrose, M & S, Sainsburys. Travelling became quite expensive but it was also subsided which was a huge plus. I didn't live nearby so can not comment on the cost of living.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were intern fundraising opportunities so it was brilliant to get involved. There were also many events I was invited to attend and also a staff roadshow which was very inspirational and showcased the brilliant cause of the company. It has inspired me to perhaps get a volunteering role with the company in the future.
