    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a challenging job at first having to learn new skills and adapt to a new environment with a 9-5 routine. However, you get used to it quickly and find what your strengths and weaknesses are. It did not take long to feel comfortable in the team and to really enjoy the project I was doing,

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was very lucky to have such a welcoming and approachable team

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was very approachable and always there to help and offer guidance whenever I had issues or was struggling during the project

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were times where I felt stressed but this was rare and the majority of the time, I was happy with the workload.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As a placement student, I had to learn several techniques and needed to feel comfortable working in the lab before I was given the responsibility of handling my project without too much assistance. I never felt like I was given too much help, and at the same time, never felt like I was left to make too many decisions independently without guidance.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I matured a lot during my placement year and not only gained a lot of experience in the laboratory, learning new techniques, but it improved my confidence and interpersonal skills significantly

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We had many laughs and got along incredibly well, but werent distracted from work and being focussed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It had a clear structure and was very organised. I never felt like I didn't understand the aims of the project

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt valued as part of the team I worked in, and always felt appreciated as a student

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • GSK would be a fantastic company to work for

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were over 100 students on placement so I made many new friends who I have kept in contact with and there were many house parties and socials during the year

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Considering we were based close to London, rent was reasonable

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were several pubs and bars but the clubs weren't very appealing. I have always believed that it's the company that makes the night, not the venue!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I joined a hockey and running club for the duration of the year

    4/5
