The Role
I am glad that I did this placement year, as it was great experience and I learnt a lot, but overall it was not for me.
The office was quite small so everyone knew each other. There were a lot of quiz nights, activities, nights out etc.
You have a buddy, a people manager, and then steps of management on each job you are working on.
Varied between being 'available for work' when the office was quiet and very busy during 'busy season'.
Quite a lot as areas of work are assigned to you, although you can ask for help.
The exams I took at college have given me a good understanding of tax and accounting, which should help me in future jobs.
The Company
As it was quite a small office everyone knew each other and there was a lot going on. In assurance, a lot of time is spent on client sites, so your experience depends on the team, the client and where you are working.
Very well organised and I had no issues.
There was a lot of training and I did seven ICAEW exams.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
PwC are very willing to take you on after your placement if you have passed your exams. If you have failed one of your final exams you do have the chance to resit and if you pass you will still get a job offer.
The Culture
As a placement student you have exactly the same experience as the other graduates you have joined. Most likely, people in the office will not even know if you are a placement of graduate. You spend a lot of time training and at college with your year, so have a good support network and do things socially.
I lived at home.
Lots of nights out were organised.
There were lots of activities organised.
