The Role
The environment is relaxed, but real work and responsibility were given in the first week. The team helped a lot to let me familiarise with the works which are new to me.
My contribution to the data processor was incorporated in the new version and is also used in other engineers' test cells. At the end of internship I hand over my jobs to other engineer and I really feel like I was taking charge during my time here.
The manager was very helpful to me. But as I was very new to this working environment I did need some more help when I first started.
Due to a part failure and delayed despatch of the failed part, there was a lack of work to me. I was looking for things to do sometimes but my manager did help to identify some research based work while the rig was out of order.
The work I did directly contributed to the report sent to customers; the updates I made to data processor were utilised immediately and passed to other engineers.
This will be a very good starting point for one of my module in the coming year in university. This is my first time to really operate something that I have learned in textbook so this is meaningful to me.
The Company
Hardworking but relaxed.
There are well-defined mid-term goals and practical things to do on a daily basis, so this is very well-organised. But the unexpected failure of the test rig did disrupt my internship, and sometime I did find there is a lack of work to do.
The company invited me on a VBA programming training course given by an external expert training service provider, this is of great help to me and I used this skill to contribute right after the training.

Very appealing. The company is a giant and is operating in many countries in many areas, so I can have whatever experience I want inside the company.
The Culture
Other interns are friendly. Colleagues are all very kind and offered great help when needed.
Living in city centre does cost some money - about 30% of wage.
Reading has good nightlife but just I never participated - I enjoy gaming more than any other events lol.
Thursday football every week.
