    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship greatly due to the following reasons: - The team I worked with was very friendly and approachable; they were keen in finding and assigning projects to us to help us learn - The work was novel and challenging; it involved a mix of both learning and practicing what we learnt - Work-life balance was appropriate; we did not have to work long hours overtime

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The associates were very keen in helping us on a face-to-face level, always taking the time to stop their current tasks to answer our questions and give us the required training. Even team members at a managerial and director level were responsive to questions and did not shy away from guiding us along.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was work to be done, but I think that the internship could have been improved in this regard. More work on a more regular basis would have resulted in a better experience. The work that we were given tended to converge towards the final weeks, and there were some periods of free time throughout.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were asked to work on tasks that contributed to actual client work, which allowed us to feel valued and useful in the company. We were also tasked with building a QlikView dashboard, to support another team in PwC, from scratch, and could use our own creativity to design it. I think that the responsibility we were given was commensurate with our position.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I study civil engineering, I do not think that the skills I developed will be directly applicable to my degree studies. However, I will be taking modules that may involve some data analysis and optimization, for which the knowledge I received at PwC might potentially be helpful. As I intend to return to PwC if I get a return offer, the skills I received here will likely help me in my graduate career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere felt friendly and calm, and never hostile or stressful. People were always approachable and talkative when needed, and many jokes and casual conversations were had to break any monotony of work. Break-out spaces were also regularly partially occupied, giving a sense of activity and teamwork instead of everyone just staring at their own computer screens.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Could have been improved in terms of organizing the work that was to be assigned to us interns. This work could have been decided beforehand so that the necessary arrangements could be set up, e.g. giving server database permissions. The waiting time for IT support to get us onto the server could have been better utilized.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. At a careers fair where I heard of this internship, I was told that the chance of a return offer was practically 90%. This was confirmed by many people along the way. Throughout the internship, there was hardly any pressure or stress for us to worry about the chances of getting a return offer or having to deal with competing with one another for an offer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Colleagues: - Organized birthday lunches for team members, and invited us interns along - Organized a welcome drinks session and brought us to their usual hangout; also bought us drinks and made us feel very welcome Interns: - We sat together even though not all of us were in the same lines of service - Ate lunch together on most days and provided each other company - Organized outings and an end-of-placement drinks session
