    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • This would be a 10 if it was not for the mess up in all interns pay! Not given the option to opt out of a pension scheme meant that the first pay was -£250. If you were expecting this to live off it was a real blow. No real help on this from HR. I loved my internship, mainly due to the team I worked in, but also because the work you are given is not just admin work. You are able to put your name to projects, get involved in outside areas and CSR campaigns. The internship project gives you a focus and I actually felt like my ideas were listened to and added value to an area of the business.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • I am extremely valued by my colleagues and they are constantly telling me how impressed they are with the work I do. They challenge and help me at the same time and also have made sure that I have gained the most I can from this internship.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Brilliant management. My line manager helped me whenever I needed help and also let me work independently so that I could own my work and put my name on a project.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • It is a busy job and quite fast paced with all the projects and objectives you have but the work is so varied that it means the day goes very fast.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given quite a bit of responsibility. I managed to set up new analysis processes whilst here, lead a CSR project, change the risk culture branding, help with account and app development and present to senior managers. It was great.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • You are made to complete training modules which help you gain knowledge on banking and RBS in particular. Training also occurs daily through line management on your day-to-day job. All of the training at RBS was high-quality.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Did things such as "wimbledon day" - Wii Fit tennis and strawberries Interns have a great social aspect as well

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • This was a major issue. They took £250 off every intern and put it into a pension scheme in the first pay. There was an option to opt out but nobody was set up on the system for this. Poorly run.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • General training online to get up to speed with the bank. Would have been better if you could be on the DTL (determined to lead) training.

    • As I am not at the end yet I will not know the offer (you get an offer or not for the grad scheme on the final day) I have been recommended for the grad scheme to early careers though

    • Great social aspect among interns

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • I had to commute from Liverpool to Manchester. This was expensive

    • Manchester is a great night out

    • Us interns made our own opportunities, be proactive and try to socialise and you will.
