    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed the friendly team and exciting work. I learned an enormous amount through being constantly challenged and treated like a regular associate at the firm. It was my first when I was applying for internships, and I can safely say I'm delighted that I did my internship here and not somewhere else.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There was a really close-knit feel within the team. I felt that the work I produced was useful and contributed well to the projects I was in. My team members were confident delegating tasks to me and inviting me along to meetings with the client. There was a very good feeling of trust within the practice.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • We each had a People Manager who we could meet with if we were struggling or had any questions. The managers of the projects were clear at explaining what was happening. It's a testament to the excellent work culture that I felt I could turn to nearly everyone for support if I needed it. Everyone was so friendly

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was working on two projects, so there was always going to be a lot of work in total. The office hours are actually really good. Hardly anyone stays beyond 19:30 and people only really start trickling into the office after 09:00. It was a good sort of busyness rather than feeling swamped with everything I had to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was pleasantly surprised that I was tasked with doing key bits of work for the project. This again builds on the point about trust. Often I had someone else working with me and we would share the responsibility together. I was really impressed that I was given important work to do and not just the menial tasks which everyone dumped on the intern.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • These internship has given me enormous clarity about what I want to focus on in my degree and in the future. I expect that I will be using the skills I've learned here in my degree. And I will be able to tailor what I study to what I know will be useful in this job when I join after my masters (which I may not have taken had I not seen the value of one from this internship).

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was really good and friendly. People come in casual clothes on Friday. There was a good spirit of colleagues helping each other and looking out for each other. It definitely wasn't hostile. There were also some great and funny people who would liven up the office with their good humour

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very, very well. There were two days of great training with all the other interns in a nice hotel. Then in the office there were some very useful meetings with members of the team, training sessions and social events. Then from the end of the first week we were working on our projects. What happened after then was dependent on the nature of the work. What we did was the same as the full time employees, which gave us a really useful insight into what it would be like to work at PwC full time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a plethora of training opportunities. These included the skills training sessions at the start, as well as lunch and learn and online resources. The two days in the hotel with the other interns shows PwC's commitment to investing in its people. I have been encouraged to pursue my ambition to study for a masters so that I will return with the advanced skills I need to add value to my role.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing because they offered me a job. I think I'd want to work for the firm in the future. There are many benefits to working there full time and they have a very generous additional perks besides the salary. The opportunities for progression and development are considerable. The work is interesting and varied and is what I can see myself doing in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. I was fortunate to be invited to the annual Strategy& soccer tournament in Madrid at the end of my second week. There were also leaving drinks when people left the firm and drinks after the monthly team meetings. I and my fellow interns often went to lunch together. We didn't really see the other interns in the firm, which might have been nice.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fairly expensive. You pay London prices for beverages in public houses. I was fortunate that I was able to live at home so I didn't have to pay rent costs. Even so, it did cost £13.20 a day to get in to work, but I think that's reasonable. There are lots of reasonable priced shops like Tesco nearby where you can buy food for lunch.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not frequent such a night time entertainment venue

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • a few. I played football with some after work. The firm does offer lots of after work activities.
