    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the internship experience at MUFG. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with excellent opportunities to meet and interact with senior managers in the organisation.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were friendly and always happy to spend time with me explaining things. By the end of the internship, I felt like an accepted member of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Managers are often busy so my main line of support came through the buddy that I was assigned. I was lucky enough to be sat near them so I could ask questions and seek support when necessary.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was generally busy throughout the day. That being said, you will be as busy as you choose to be. I think that I got far more from the internship by being as busy as possible and seeking out work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given the nature of my placement on a trading desk, there was only so much responsibility that I was allowed to handle. My placement was largely about learning the intricacies of what was going on and learning as much as possible.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills learnt here will assist a little but I think that the working world is completely different to the university environment. While they may not help a lot at university, they are extremely valuable skills to have moving forward.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere was very friendly. As long as you are eager and keen to learn, fellow staff members will be more than happy to spend time explaining things to you.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised with clearly planned out networking opportunities and social events from the beginning. The structure of 1 week training, 7 week primary rotation and a 2 week secondary rotation was very beneficial allowing extra time to take full advantage of your primary rotation.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a week of training that gave a broad overview of the financial markets and covered the bare minimum of what I needed to know when starting on my primary rotation.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Given the great culture and atmosphere at MUFG, I would gladly come back and work here. The staff there want to see you succeed and look to take people onto the analyst programme from the internship the previous year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene with fellow intern was very good. We made a WhatsApp group and frequently went out for drinks after work. The social scene with colleagues is very specific to what department you are working in but my department had a pretty good social scene.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived within walking distance of the office and paid a lot to do so but I think it was worth it. It is London so it's going to be expensive.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being in central London the nightlife was great.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was plenty of opportunities if you look for them and choose to get involved. They ranged from 5-a-side football to abseiling off the side of the building for charity.
