    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a great chance to find out more about the career opportunities at BP. The day allowed me to network with current interns and recent graduates in order to get a good understanding of the work ethic at BP and the support that is offered to employees during their career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt that every employee was very respectful and showed genuine interest what I had to say. They were very helpful and definitely encouraged me to consider a career at BP. They acknowledged how well I had done to get a scholarship with BP and assured me that I would fit in at BP.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The discovery day allowed me to talk to employees, including recent graduates and interns. They gave me great advice that will definitely be useful in my future applications. The second half of the day was focussed on interviews and assessment centres. Assessors talked us through the exercises and what they expect to see from candidates. This was very useful.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The information I received helped me to decide which parts of BP I would be most interested. It also helped to give me an idea of the skills needed at BP, both during the application process and the rest of my career at the firm. The insight day gave me a chance to see how useful a Master's degree may be on top of my current degree.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight day was very well organised. BP staff planned the day such that there were sufficient breaks whilst we were still able to learn a lot about BP. The sessions were interactive and allowed me to get an insight into different areas of BP. It was great that we had a networking lunch so we were able to find out about working life from current employees

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was fun from start to end. The staff were incredibly friendly and the sessions involved games and were interactive. It was great that a lot of the sessions were discussion based rather than just being talked at. The insight day was overall very pleasant and is something I would definitely recommend to anyone with an interest in the oil and gas industry.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight day allowed me to meet a number of employees, from a range of backgrounds and who had been at the firm for different amounts of time. I was able to talk to new graduates who explained how great BP as well as older employees who have been with BP for a longer time and have seen it progress into what it is today.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The insight day allowed me to gain an insight into the different areas at BP. However, we only visited broad areas of the business e.g finance, engineering. It would've been nice to find out more about the different divisions in finance (e.g. procurement) as I am interested in the finance side of the business.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Much of the day revolved around networking. During our sessions we met experts, for example a geologist who showed us how to interpret seismic data. The networking lunch was a great opportunity to talk to graduates, interns and people working in recruitment. This allowed me to get advice from them about applications.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would definitely recommend this insight to anyone interested in the oil industry. It was a great chance to visit an amazing BP site and to see the specialist research equipment BP has. It was also useful to talk to employees and attend workshops on interviews which would help not only for applications to work at BP, but also other companies.
