About You
A lot! Excellent balance between presentations and interactive activities. I particularly enjoyed how people from the Grad scheme had an informal talk with us at lunch; it's nice to hear from people who have been in the same boat rather than just recruiters or senior employees. Also met a lot of people from different unis.
It was obvious that the firm thought of us as valued potential talent. Everyone was very nice to us, from the receptionist who signed us in to the facilitator. Food provision was adequate; there was breakfast (pastries and croissants), crisps and even chocolate chip cookies for lunch. We also got a free BP hoodie.
Only there for a day so nothing much to say.
There was an interview skills session which was good because it was 3 people to one interviewer. Also got to see actual application essays and HR comments, as well as advice on what the company looked for in employees. Advice tailored to BP was extremely useful in prepapring me to apply for more weighty programmes, such as a summer internship.
The Company
Very structured (since it was only one day and conducted in grouos). Apart from employee presentations we also got to see some of the training facilities available at the BP upstream learning center. There were games and interactive sessions where we got to compete against each other as well as ask questions.
Very friendly. The whole atmosphere was chill and informal. The facilitator was very nice and the graduate employees whom we spoke to treated us very well, answering all the questions that we wouldn't dare to ask under ordinary circumstances.
Only a day, so nothing much I can say about this.
A lot. Employees spoke to us about the varied nature of work required at BP, as well things such as juggling different time zones and the amount of responsibility given. Overall the fact that BP was a multinational company meant that a full time role would involve a varied amount of tasks and involvement with many different teams,
We got plenty of insights into the working style at BP, i.e. in terms of flexible hours and such. Nevertheless, we were in the Upstream Learning Centre which is essentially a teaching unit and so did not get to see offices where employees did actual work. The layout of rooms and facilities (among other things) provided more hints.
This was an excellent opportunity. As an international; student I had previously only focused on the Big 4 as they sponsor Tier 2 visas. However, I now know that MNCs such as BP also sponsor visas for business roles although they are in the energy sector, and will broaden my research into employers.
Everything Else
Expenses claim form filled.
As mentioned earlier employees from the graduate scheme came down to lunch with us, and we met may HR people. However, I was a tad disappointed that I did not get to meet anyone from the division which I was interested in, as I had some industry specific technical questions to ask. Those that we met, however gave a satisfying general overview of the company and what was expected of its people.
Only a day so not much.
Yes, plenty of clubs and societies at BP. Not much in the surrounding area though.
YES!! :) It gives you a head start on applying to BP which I will definitely be doing.
