    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was very enjoyable, interesting and engaging. Also, it was very well organised from morning to evening. It was fantastic to be able to meet students from all over the country and even from abroad. It was a great networking opportunity with these students but also with BP workers from different sectors. The offices were beautiful and based in Sunbury. They were massive with workers from various departments including business and trading.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • It was only one day long but still I felt very welcome at the BP offices and all the advisors were very helpful and very respectful. It feels like a place I would definitely like to work. BP is very diverse with workers coming from different backgrounds. I had a chat with a few people at the shuttle bus stop and they had many different ethnic background.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was a specific session where we had mock interviews and they helped up prepare and understand what to expect in the interviews for internships next year. During the day we went around various EOR departments and had a look at what was going on and had everything explained to us. During this session they didn't go in to that much depth at all as they aren't allowed to or it would be unfair for other applicants.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are only so many skills you can acquire on an insight day. However the information received was very interesting regarding the processes that go on in various departments. There was a lot to do with geoscience which wasn't particularly helpful with a chemical engineering course but always good knowledge to have.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • They had a well structured plan throughout the day to keep us occupied. I wasn't bored at any point during this discovery insight day. We started with a very interesting talk from one of their workers who had worked for BP globally and also had graduate talks through the day. They didn't let us waste any time, even during lunch we were networking with workers

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • It was quite alive, in the sense it was easy to concentrate because of how interesting they made the talks. The others students were all attentive as well and pleasant to be around. Advisors made the day very engaging with a academic game before lunch to keep us focused. So overall was a good atmosphere. Its a great way to meet people that are going down the same paths as you.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As a discovery day there isn't much training and development going on but mainly about gaining an interest in the company and feeling comfortable in their working place and finding out whats needed to make it there. They spent the whole day with a group of about 28 students. The company paid for travel and lunch which means they valued the students.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • After many talks and graduate experiences it seemed reasonably clear what it would be like to have a role with the company although, for more insight an internship would be required. So overall I don't really know what it would be like to work for the company but so far I have a very good impression. I understand that its speedy and you have to be very quick to grasp knowledge/

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was lucky to have been reimbursed for travel expenses which was great. They cover up to £100 of travel expenses. They also provided lunch which meant i saved money on lunch which included the essentials. They had a free shuttle bus from the offices to feltham station which made my journey easier. On the shuttle bus I spoke with a bp worker to gain knowledge on his field.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, very much. throughout the day we were listening to talks from graduates and workers and then also asking questions which was great. As well as that, we were netowrking over the lunch break where we sat with workers and spoke to them about their jobs and any information /advice that they had. They were very helpful in giving advice and spoke about whats important.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Its a fantastic way to get an overview of working at BP, giving you information on their internship schemes and other ways to get involved with BP. Good to hear from graduates and other workers. People were very respectful and helpful when trying to discuss with them. Something to get down on your CV. Enjoyed fun activites including a game to do with the programme.
