    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • At the start i was not sure about the corporate landscape but as the year has progressed i have found my enjoyment in my work. To be honest i do not know if i will return to the industry because i am not sure that it is right for me... However, there are huge opportunities across a wide range of functions at Pfizer.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Varied massively. I got a lot of stick over the year from some saying ''what do you actually do?'' , just because i am working on different areas of the business. I think they may have forgotten that i am here to learn and not just focus on one core job function.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was super supportive and gave me plenty of help with my project work which i would have been completely lost without. Also, i have been completing my dissertation while on placement and he has given me guidance when needed. I can not fault his efforts in developing my competencies.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Over the course of the year this varied vastly. The first few months were flat out, then again at christmas and finally at the end of the year. I believe times in-between varied so much due to the challengess of project work and also stakeholders constantly changing demands and deadlines etc.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a lot of free rope to work on my projects due to the nature of my work. I would simply draft ideas/created documents and then have the checked by my manager before getting the go ahead to have its signed off or given to whoever needed it. Due to this level of responsibility, i have learnt a lot more than if i was just carrying out functions for my team.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Difficult to say because i am still not sure what i want to do after University. Of course the soft skills i have continued to develop while at Pfizer are transferrable and this is a bonus. Regarding the training, i do not think it will be of use at University or another Industry because it is very specific to Pharma

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Relaxed, happy and funny most of the time. The organisational culture of Pfizer as a whole is lovely to work in - I was very surprised about the freedom that are given as a colleague, and it works. Everyone is expected to do there work and because of the levels of trust everyone does.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would say that it could have been better but i think that my role was just not right for an intern. Thats why i ended up spending the majority of my year on project work because the main job role was not suitable. Then again, i am much happier my year went the way it did, so i suppose its a win for me getting to learn about a wider range of organisational tasks....

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • MASSIVELY. I will not specify exactly to keep retain my identity but i will say that Pfizer have given me a huge opportunity to come back to the industry as a graduate if i want to. For developing its workforce i reckon Pfizer is one of the best, at least that's from what i have heard...

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As i have said, i'm sure there is every opportunity to excel in Pfizer across many different organisational functions from what i have seen, but i'm not sure it is right for me. If you are keen on the Pharma industry then this would be a great place for you to learn the sector and develop your understanding of medicine.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I lived too far away from the office to socialise with other students so i cannot comment greatly. It seems like there is a god bond between students who i have spent time with at work though. If I was to start the year again I would have tried to live with fellow students.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Sooooooooo expensive its been literally crippling all year, i have not made it out of my overdraft haha. In and around surrey and south London the rent prices are far too high for placement student salaries. Hearing from fellow University students in different cities Pfizer does pay more than the rest, yet this is still out weight by the cost of living.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area is appauling for clubs/bars. That's why i decided to live closer into central London so that i could enjoy my placement this year. The rent prices do not differ that much living closer in so i went with the night life over being stuck in surrey with nothing to do.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not that i was aware of. Problem with my department it that many people live 50/60 miles away so as soon as work is finished people are rushing off to get home and beat the traffic. I will say one great thing is that they over football Wedsnesday Lunch which many of the interns turn up to.
