The Role
Although work on the internship started slowly, during the second half I was given some more important tasks to do and felt more involved with the company.
Many of my colleagues rated my work very highly and I received great praise for my efforts there.
My manager gave me guidelines for the work on my internship, however these were often changed by others and I was largely left to organize myself and find challenges that i felt that I could help with.
levels of work fluctuated throughout the internship, with the early weeks being quite easy going and the latter weeks being more rushed.
I was given my own small project, which I was given full control of. However this was a small project which fitted into a much larger operation within BP.
I am studying a degree which is greatly dissimilar to to the work that I was doing within BP, however the skills which I have learnt will be very useful in future employment.
The Company
While work was taken seriously, there was always a good atmosphere and colleges were always available for a chat about work, or any other topic.
The scheme was practically seamless, and it was clear that it had been run for many years prior to my year of participation.
There was a feeling that any resources that could help with your time at BP were available for use.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Although I got a job with the company, only around 6/10 were offered placements. This is much lower than other internships.
The Culture
There was a good social scene created, however this was created by the interns rather that by the company..
Cost of living and socializing was very expensive, however the summer wages covered this.
Lived in Chelsea and had a number of amazing nights out with other interns
Many sports and social clubs were available for interns to join for the summer, similar to the clubs at universities.
