    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Waitrose, it really opened by eyes to how a commercial marketing department works and the considerations that have to happen.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 100% - I wasn't considered 'the placement student' at all, with many agencies not even realising I was one. I was fully integrated and felt a central member of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the way, both from my direct line manager and other mangers within the team and division. I was always given opportunities to progress myself, get extra shadowing experience where possible and develop/improve the existing role - which all really added to the value and enjoyment of the year.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Massively busy, always things to do, and meaningful things also - it was never 'ad-hoc jobs' or 'admin', it was legitimate work that if I wasn't doing, someone would've had to cover straight away. But at the same time, I wasn't stretched beyond my capacity.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Loads, absolutely loads. Being campaign manager for the weekly myWaitrose newsletter sent to 3 million members is no small task, and besides the 'always on offer' help and support from my manager, it was ultimately my responsibility and I was able to shape it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and knowledge I've developed within both online and offline CRM marketing will undoubtedly enable doors to be opened in the future from a jobs perspective. The wider background commercial knowledge should also help in final year degree studies.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The perfect combination of buzzing with work, and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere which was really pleasant to spent time in every day. This was also reflected out of work with multiple social occasions and other activities which added to the whole experience.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well, smooth, no hiccups and I was offered an extension of 2 months over the summer also which was arranged really smoothly.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 4 out of office development days helped us develop personal and work based skills, the team also invested in allowing me to spend time with other teams which broadened my knowledge.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Graduate scheme-wise, limited - with a reduction in the number of schemes running, and whilst a fast-track is in place, it could allow a bigger 'jump'. However there is aspiration to enable more opportunity for placement student talent and prevent them from going to competitors post-graduation.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes - 10 of us stayed in two houses nearby. We all got on well and went for nights out, Christmas meals and also went on two long-weekend European breaks to Prague and Madrid. This was sometimes limited due to busy weekend plans but all in all it was very good.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Moderate, with being in Reading fairly close to London, but nothing extortionate

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bracknell has nothing going on, but Reading is good - full of students and plenty of places to go.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, but I wasn't involved in them.

    3/5
