The Role
I really enjoyed the internship at Cancer Research, everyone that I came across at the company was lovely and always super helpful. I gained much valuable insight into the charities sector and I was able to make more informed decisions regarding my career choices as a result of this. It's also been a really social 3 months where I have met a lot of friends that I'm sure I will keep in touch with.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as they always made an effort to thank me for my support and let me know the outcome of my work.
I felt supported by my manager as she always checked in on me and asked how I was coping with the workload. I knew that all of my team were available if I needed to query anything and they were always really warm and helpful.
I always had work to do but often this was sourcing raffle prizes for events which was quite tedious so I would have preferred to have slightly more variety in my work and a slightly heavier workload.
I felt that I was given quite a lot of responsibility during my internship as when I was given a task, I was trusted to complete it myself and not checked in on all the time which I appreciated.
I have certainly developed a range of skills that will help me as I start out in my career. The most useful 'training' I received was guidance on how to write a good CV, which undoubtedly helped me to secure an interview for a job I actually ended up getting as before this I hadn't been getting anywhere with my applications. I have also become more confident in a work environment.
The Company
The office is a really busy, vibrant and happy place to work.
The internship was really well organised, everything had been thought of and it was always clear who to contact if there were any queries.
So much was prepared to help the interns settle in, socialise and aid our personal development. I definitely feel like I am much more employable as a result of my internship with CRUK.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Working from home
Travel loan
Very appealing, I would love to work for CRUK in the future as I have been really impressed by the organisation.
The Culture
There was a really good social scene with 'Thirsty Thursday' drinks every week which really helped the interns get to know each other and generally made the experience much more enjoyable.
Fairly expensive area but CRUK have good discounts in a lot of the surroundings restaurants/bars.
The nightlife was good- a lot of bars and restaurants
There were definitely opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work as there were a lot of sports and social clubs available. I went to a circuit training class every week which I really enjoyed.
