    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As a non-cognate, the summer internship has provided me a solid introduction to the real estate industry. I am already 2 months into my Real Estate Masters this year and the experiences which I have obtained during my 6 weeks at Cushman & Wakefield have already been extremely helpful during my studies.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone is friendly and welcoming to help you. The firm has an open space work culture which encourages interns like myself to ask questions from other departments. Assigned work was always meaningful and contributed to the firm.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Interns were given plenty of support and guidance from day one. We were encouraged to ask questions and were proactively assisted by HR.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • July to August is a relatively quiet time for the real estate industry. Although as interns, we were given plenty of tasks to work on whilst embracing the work culture at Cushman & Wakefield. This provided a great balance of work and social activities.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given enough responsibility and autonomy to work independently or as part of a team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experiences and skills which I have developed during the summer internship has helped me immensely during postgraduate study so far. All of my classmates are surprised when I tell them that I am from a non-cognate background. My time at Cushman & Wakefield has definitely "kick-started" my real estate career and has given me a truly competitive advantage.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly, open and inviting. Overall, a great place to learn and work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The summer internship was organised well by HR. All summer interns were invited to London for an welcome/open day. This provided a great introduction into the firm. Back in Manchester, my work laptop and phone were all set up and ready for use on my first day.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Feedback was always constructive and helpful in terms of personal development. In terms of CPD, I attended a training session with recent graduates on how to use software such as CoStar more effectively. Moreover, I was given a call by HR to discuss how my presentation went on and was given feedback. This was a nice gesture and definitely helped refine areas where I could improve on for future presentations/pitches.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a fast-track onto the assessment centre in January. Employment onto graduate schemes will always remain hugely competitive. You have to make the most of every opportunity and give it your all regardless of your outcome/personal circumstances following a summer internship.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the other summer interns were friendly. There were no issues with arranging socials between us all.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was already living in Manchester so my expenses were relatively low.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Manchester has an excellent nightlife.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Manchester is full of activities outside of work.
