The Role
It was really interesting having my own project, which wasn't an extension of someone else's project.
There was definitely a gap between the PhD students and the summer students, so it felt hard to socialise with most of them.
When my supervisor was free, he was brilliant, but he was very busy and on holiday some of the time.
Most of the time I had the right amount of work to do.
Most equipment I was not allowed to use by myself, as I didn't have the training.
I learnt a lot about research skills.
The Company
I became good friends with the other summer students, so it was an enjoyable placement.
It was very easy to get the placement, and to arrange the details with the supervisor.
I didn't really get trained in anything.
I am very interested in doing research at the university.
The Culture
Yes with fellow placement students, but not with other members of the group.
Accommodation in Cambridge can be quite expensive, but living and socialising are average prices.
Usual mix of good/bad nightlife!
As most activities connected to the university are student run, not much goes on in the summer holidays.
