The Role
I have really enjoyed my internship and will be sad to leave. The project I have taken part in has been really interesting and something that has genuine commercial value to the company.
Every person I have met has been friendly and takes the time to greet you/help you out/point you in the right direction.
My line manager has always been available and willing to give me advice, feedback and help with where the project is going. He has been extremely approachable and easy to get on with throughout the internship. You are also appointed a mentor who is another person that is able to support you during the internship.
As a lot of the work is lab-based for a chemist I have been busy nearly every day- either doing experiments, writing reports, preparing presentations or taking part in one of the central intern projects.
My project was a joint project and so I had a lot of support from my manager however I took the lead in all presentations, approached analytical staff, arranged meetings and had to write the final report.
I have learnt so much and feel that I will be at a great advantage going into mt final reaseach project next year.
The Company
Quiet but everyone is really friendly.
I always knew what I had to do and by what deadline.
I was able to visit other sites down in Pangbourne and up in Aberdeen. We were also give a presentation skills workshop which was very useful.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I have been recommended for the assessment centre and if I am successful will get a graduate job offer.
The Culture
All the interns lived together so there was a great atmosphere at home and a lot of social events! We also attended a BP bbq and a few team meals!
Hull is very cheap.
As we were a big group we always had a fun night out but the nightlife in Hull is nothing special.
There is a football team that plays every Wednesday.
