The Role
The topics i was working on, and the overall aim of the organisation, meant i was generally engaged and interested in what i was doing. They also did a good job of making sure there was a lot of variety in the work i was required to do.
felt very valued, everyone seemed confident to give me projects to do, and trusted that i would do them well.
mentor system worked really well, and centrally organised training and induction days were interesting. I got given feedback on almost every bit of work i did, which was very helpful.
probably my own fault for not always asking for enough work, but generally very good, and an excellent balance between long-term projects and quicker things.
Surprised at the level of responsibility and trust they have in you, made everything much more fulfilling.
I hope to work in this area, so it should be useful.
The Company
Always chatty and friendly, both within my team and the wider organisation. 'Hot desking' meant you got to sit next to, and get to know, lots of different people.
Very good organisationally, lots of involvement with other interns and good support both from your mentor, and the volunteering department generally.
Constantly asked what i'd like to see more of, so i could attend any meetings i felt were interesting, and go on secondment to a different department for a while if i wanted to get a feel of a different sector of the organisation.
Flexi Time
Working from home
There seem to be quite a lot of other interns who've gone on to 'real' jobs
The Culture
Yes, both within the team and between the interns, though i didn't always have time to attend.
It's London, so expensive, but not as bad as the City
Didn't really go out around there as i live in London anyway, but Upper Street is very good
Loads of opportunities to volunteer at fundraising/ sporting events like shine etc.
