The Role
I know from my internship at Cancer Research UK that I really enjoy marketing and want to pursue it as a career.
My colleagues were extremely grateful that I was here and made my experience a lot of fun.
Every week I had 121s with my supervisor to find out how I was getting on but she was always there to give me guidance throughout.
I always has a steady work load. There were a few times where I was extremely busy but it was a good experience to work under pressure as I'm sure I will have to in the future. I can't say that anytime in my 12 weeks I was bored.
I was given live projects to lead. My marketing campaign is now in the shops!
My internship has been in retail marketing. My degree is in history so I had no previous marketing experience. This internship has given me the skills and experience I need to get on a graduate scheme to do marketing. I have experience that will hopefully set me apart from other candidates.
The Company
The office is brand new and open plan with a lively atmosphere. There is a real buzz and passion at Cancer Research UK. Everyone is motivated but very sociable.
The placement is very well run. There was a 2 day induction where you learn about the charity as a whole and got to know the other interns. You set goals with your mentor you would like to achieve. There is also a CV and interview day to help you once you end your internship.
Through the internship I learn't how to develop e a marketing campaign from the intial brainstorm to the end result in the shop. They also gave a CV and Interview day to help you once you left.
Company Parties/Events
There are jobs available within the organisation, and they do like to hire internally so although you are not guaranteed a job when start the internships there are opportunities to apply while here.
The Culture
Yes, there were drinks and meals organised.
There is quite a high cost of living and socialising as it is in London but the social life is extremely good! All depends how much you want to go out.
There are lots of nice bars and restaurants about.
Yes - we got invited to events outside of work all of which were free.
