    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was good as I have done placements where I was just counting down to the end of work. it had a good balance of exploring the site and what BP does and also a worthwhile project.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My line manager is very supportive but as I work in a very small office, I do not know those outside my office very well. but everyone is very supportive in terms of technical assistance.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager taught me many things and it was easy to pick up from him.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There are certain fluctuations but there are fewer stars for it because of the way the question was put across. I like the fluctuations. I like rushing for a deadline and having a week of relaxing work to do. Adds to variety

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given full autonomy over my project, able to question work previously done and also assumptions. However, that's just a small segment of the whole department.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Best type of training. ASPEN and HTRI

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There's only four of us so we shared chocolate, discussed about food and of course, plenty of engineering stuff.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Excellent. There was an induction that helped us settle in, a line manager with a good project, a good structure for assessment and also an allocated mentor. Very good for personal development.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had required technical training. Staff was very willing to take us around the sites and really did their best to make us feel welcomed.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Opportunity for chartership, career development also. Good for a single career development but at my age, I would like to try the adrenaline rush of working in a startup. Hopefully technology based.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all lived in the same house so plenty of opportunities for bbqs, nights out, film nights. We have a projector in our house!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's Hull. It's cheap.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Some clubs are quite dodgy, especially those in the city centre.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There isn't really much to do in Hull in terms of music which is something I really like. Although, there's plenty to do in terms of team sports.

    3/5
