    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I loved it, couldn't have had a better organised two-weeks and would do it all again in a heartbeat. The only downside was my group were very difficult to work and get on with, they would often sit around on their phones or not input any ideas - but there was not a lot the company could do about it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The Communications Manager made us feel particularly valued and suggested that she would use some of our ideas in her own presentation to her team. All staff were extremely helpful and I really felt like we were valued and made welcome.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Couldn't have hoped for more support. All staff were willing to reply to emails and questions quickly or have meetings at short notice, even when they had high work loads.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A lot, I learned how to communicate in a professional work environment, discovered ways of working in teams, learned about HR and what they do. It's given me more confidence and I would now be prepared to go on a professional vacation scheme, whereas before I was uncertain and felt unprepared.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • During the initial information session on the first Monday we were given very little information, and it was really off putting. I was very downhearted and felt overwhelmed, I told some of my friends that evening that I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it for two weeks. But on the following day we got more information and the task became more apparent and I started thinking of plans and ideas, and then I got really into it. The only issue I had was that first day, and after that it was structured at 10/10.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Office environment was very pleasant. HR team was lovely and friendly, some said hi to us or just smiled, which made me feel welcome. Atmosphere within my team was sleepy and bored mostly, I struggled to get people involved in the task and to give input.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't think they invested in us at all. HR staff gave us sessions to talk through elements of the task or their careers, but we didn't have training as such. But I didn't expect them to do anymore than they did - it wasn't the point of the experience.

    2/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I could see their working environment, and social lives at work. But I didn't really get any insight into a full-time role - I would probably be looking at the Legal section whereas we were based in the HR section, so the roles would be very different.

    2/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very helpful, could tell it was relaxed, friendly, people enjoyed their jobs, managers would be mixed into their teams rather than separate in their own offices. I completely got an understanding in how their office worked.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Suggested to me that I might like a career in something other than a law firm or a legal department. But haven't decided on anything as a result.

    3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Was paid £200 for two-weeks, which was a bonus as I would have probably done it with just being reimbursed expenses, or possibly not having anything paid. For the amount of time and effort I put in I felt it was fairly reasonable, it more than covered my costs. I felt like other people in my team were doing it for the money, and one of them said "we'll get the money anyway so it doesn't have to be perfect" - which I felt was not the point of the experience at all and they were in it for the wrong reasons.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I have since been emailed to set up a meeting with someone in the legal department to talk through careers and opportunities within the company. During the fortnight we were given lots of contacts to meet and get information from and networking was encouraged.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There were no social events. Networking as above - very good.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No, it wasnt applicable to us as we were only there for 2 weeks.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I have to multiple friends and said it was excellent. Some have said they will try for it next year and that it sounded like a great experience.
