About You
As someone who is passionate about animals and has wanted a career with them from a young age, this placement was an incredibly exciting opportunity which was thoroughly enjoyed throughout.
Throughout the placement the staff made an effort to make all staff and volunteers alike feel valued, constantly praising and thanking them for their hard work.
Before the placement I had to go in for a day to receive full training to ensure I felt confident when it came to it. Staff were available for support the whole time, and were on hand for anything needed at any time.
As mentioned above, I have always wanted to work in the animal industry. The industry values work experience more than anything else, so doing placements in animal envirnonments is a good way to gain skills and experience for the future.
The Company
During the insight volunteers would work to the schedule of an animal keeper, giving them structure to their day and also giving them an insight to the work of a keeper.
The atomosphere was light and enjoyable, with all staff and visitors being polite and friendly. Other than the initial interview for the placement it was all informal, which helps greatly.
I was offered an additional placement afterwards, along with being provided information on other career opportunities.
As mentioned above, the placement followed the average day of a keeper.
Extremely helpful.
I already knew that I wanted to work with animals, however this placement confirmed that and made me more determined to get where I need to be.
Everything Else
Voluntary placement, payment/bursary not needed.
We were introduced to many members of staff.
Not something that was mentioned or required.
Not really mentioned, but again wasn't needed as part of the placement.
Good training, helpful and friendly staff and lovely atmosphere, as well as being able to get properly stuck in and hands on with the animals. Would definitely recommended to anyone who wants to or thinks that they might want to work with animals.
