    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • One of the best experiences of my life.

  • I felt we pulled together to get through the physical challenges! Laughing all the way :)

  • Guidance was given throughout whilst giving us freedom and our sense of adventure.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The days where challenging physically however my fitness improved throughout. There was plenty of downtime on evening and weekends.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Alot of responsibility, such as taking part and recording data, observing the animals closely and setting mammal traps.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The team leader helped me focus on wanted I wanted to achieve and I came back to the UK with a new lease of life and I achieved a first class Hons in my degree. Umphafa helped with that.

  • There was no office, which made it perfect! hands on experience is what everyone needs.

  • Very well organised and I felt comfortable and safe at all times.

  • Gave me lots of hints and tips and I learnt lots of life lessons.

  • It's difficult as the jobs are so sought after!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, however on my placement there was only me and one other volunteer. Would be more social the more volunteers there are.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • All included, apart from if you want snacks.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • No nightlife and thats what I wanted :).

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Take a trip down to the watering hole where you can spend the day observing giraffe, blesbock and a whole host of other animals in the natural environment.
