The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, although to call it the best job ever with the hours required would be a bit extreme!
I had slightly mixed experiences on two different teams, however felt that everyone in the research department was really supportive and welcoming to all of us interns.
We had access to senior management whenever we wanted it, and they would always make time to talk to us about our experiences or, more specifically, about our tasks or jobs. My mentor was particularly helpful.
I had a lot to do and some days I had to stay late as well as work at the weekends, but that is the nature of the job, so I never minded.
I was responsible for writing and sending out a post-results email and variance table, which is normally left for more senior employees. I also put together one team's weekly publication one week.
I have now finished my degree, so it won't help with that! It has helped me be more organised and taught me to prioritise tasks better.
The Company
Research departments are never going to be the most fun, but the people were always friendly and different parts of the office are more lively and noisy than others.
I felt it was very well organised, however more specific research training would have been helpful, and there was quite a large discrepancy between different teams and how much work they set their interns.
We had a whole week of training, and had meetings with senior management and HR throughout to make sure we were developing properly.

Competition will be tough as all the interns were strong, but I loved my time at Morgan Stanley and would definitely take a job if one was offered.
The Culture
All the Equity Research interns got on well and most went out for drinks together. Some of us also had friends from other divisions, who were sociable.
It's very expensive living and socialising in Canary Wharf! I spent £200 a week on rent for a flat by Tower Bridge, and ate breakfast, dinner and lunch at work. Bars are also expensive.
Canary Wharf doesn't really have nightlife, rest of London is obviously great though.
You could get involved in gym events or charity events.
