    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Gained great exposure and experience over the 10 months of being at Boots, improved as a person and employee. Was offered many useful opportunities including shadowing key areas of the business and getting a real understanding for commercial finance. Excellent placement and left with many good connections

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt valued in every contribution i made, built up some brilliant connections within team and outside of my team. Gained recognition for the work i had produced and always felt like a strong member of the group. Work doesn't go unnoticed and took on a vital role in the business meaning my placement was worth something to boots

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given great support from Line manager amongst others, seeked monthly feedback on perfomance and ability as well as how to improve as an employee. Manager helped me to develop my own skill set and really acknowlegde my strengths and weaknesses. Without having been given guidence at Boots i wouldn't have been able to make use of my time on placement and becuase of this support i was able to flousih and show off my ability

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy to an extent- always working on projects and dealing with month end processes in finance role. This was as expected due to working in a fast paced role dealing with customer events and personalisation projects that boots hope to run in the future. Being busy without being over worked helped to build up my knowledge and experience for what its like to work in commercial and in commercial Finance to be specific

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • was given a lot of responsibility, had my own tasks and projects to run and also projects to support in so i was always working in a core area of the business. This includes reporting on month end transactions and then presenting this information in a board report meeting to higher levels of the business. I also ran events analysis-looking at what our payday events brought to the business

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i have gained and developed this year will aid me massively in my final year of studies and when looking for a graduate job. I am immensly proud of my skillset having been at Boots-my communication skills have gone up second to none and i am much more confident with my ability to talk and to network with others. Many of my skills will be applicable to my final year of studies

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The working culture was laid back somewhat and was relaxed, this made it easy to talk to others and to work freely-making it feel stress free. The atmosphere is very friendly at Boots with everyone happy to help you and assist if you need support. I have managed to make some brilliant friends from Boots during my 10 months here so far and that is becuase of the laid back atmosphere here

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm has put some real time and effort into helping build up my personal development, i have had a monthly 1:1 with my line manager over the year to aid my own development and seek feedback-meaning i recieved support constantly. I also had a monthly session with the rest of the placement students and the Boots talent team to take us outside of our role and look at our perofmance and time at Boots so far, as well as reflecting and refocusing on the rest of our time

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme at Boots is a real opportunity for those in finance to get real hands on experience in the role, it is a 3 year scheme where you can go abroad for a year and get a real understanding for commerical finance, the ins and outs to Boots. Its a fantastic opportunity and that also comes with the fast track to becoming a higher level within 3-5 years, meaning the potential for promotions is high

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was, there were 22 placment students across boots and the majority of us always met up for meals/drinks and nights out on the weekend, which helped to create a great atmosphere at Boots and made my time on placement much more enjoyable. i lived with 2 other lads on placement and that meant we always went out and socialised as a group so that was a highlight of my placement. overall, there was a good vibe around boots with the placmement colleagues
