    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was a brilliant opportunity to get an insight into the company. Not only were we offered networking opportunities, but the Spring Programme was very well structured. It felt like we were getting the full experience, which made it even better. I'm really glad I applied and I've enjoyed every moment of it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • As much as it is possible for that to happen in a mere couple of days, it was brilliant to feel part of the company. Our opinions were valued, and I didn't feel at all disregarded as a simple first year whose ideas are not as important. It was great to see that in the group activities there was a lot of emphasis on our strengths and self-improvement, which made me feel even more valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The insight provided the best guidance I have seen for this kind of programme. For every activity I felt there was fantastic support available. Everyone seemed to be ready to answer any question, which was fantastic. To me, what made the support so great was the relaxed environment: no question seemed too silly and everyone was happy to guide us, without making us feel inadequate.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I applied for this particular insight because I wanted to know whether I was suited for the industry. I am confident that I've learned a lot about marketing in a multinational. All the information I've received has been amazingly useful, especially seeing as most of it was offered not just to make us work for Unilever, but develop personally.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was structured very well. I felt there was enough interaction with the business before getting stuck into a function-specific task. I loved the presentations and the networking sessions with senior members have been brilliant. Although I enjoyed the format, the assessment centre had a longer period than most nervous candidates find bearable.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The insight days have been very very relaxed and the atmosphere allowed for questions to be asked, which I found great. Naturally, the assessment centre day was a bit more tense, but even so, the fact that we weren't competing against each other made the atmosphere great for team work. I was pleasantly surprised to notice people helping each other out, even in their function, without any resentment and unnecessary competitive spirit.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was very impressed with the amount invested in us. Getting to talk to senior managers in my function was amazing and it was great for my development. I feel that Unilever did a brilliant job investing in training for me, because at all stages, I have learnt how to deal with different marketing (and also interview) situations. Perhaps the best bit about this training is that I've acquired transferable skills.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Without a shadow of doubt, the Unilever Spring Programme has been a great insight into company culture. The standards of leadership, the company values as well as the general atmosphere came across at all points during the programme, which made me understand the company even better. Because everyone is so dedicated, and we could interact with various staff (at different career levels), it felt the Unilever culture came across brilliantly!

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The reimbursement and the lovely accommodation made the insight even better. My travel expenses would have otherwise been to high for me to be able to afford coming to Head Office, so this has been a great selling point for me. It was lovely to see that the company took genuine good care of us and cared about our comfort in (understandably) stressful situations.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking was definitely one of my favourite parts! It was amazing to get to ask questions to placement year students, team leaders as well as senior staff. Because the atmosphere was so relaxed, socialising with both the other participants and the Unilever staff has been great. The insight days were not just a training opportunity, but also great way to meet new people, which I loved.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely! I have had a brilliant time, and I feel I have learned a lot, despite not being offered a summer internship. To me, this is one of the strongest points of the Spring Programme: feeling there is a lot to take away, where I can improve (because my assessment centre day has been through and very useful) and having met great new people, even without going to the next stage in the programme.
