The Role
Had a fantastic year - learnt an awful lot and met some really good people.
I was made to feel like a full-time member of the team from the very start. They made it clear they were grateful for the work I was completing and were happy to spare their time for me.
Regular feedback on work given. Clear guidance on assigned tasks.
In a monthly team, so certain days were busier than others. Only a couple of times I felt I had too much to do. Some days, however, I had little work to do which allowed me to utilise the online learning material.
Took full responsibility for certain tasks I was assinged.
Team very much accounting-based, which doesn't really assist a Maths degree, but the technical knowledge will be useful beyond University.
The Company
Team was quite quiet, until I arrived. The floor was generally lively, with everybody being friendly and approachable.
Good structure from HR. Lots of events in the summer but the frequency decreased significantly in September. Obviously designed for the Interns not Placement students.
Had access to all of the online learning materials, and was encouraged to go on training days in courses of your choice.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Would love to return - however it was made very clear there was a distinct lack of graduate positions in this division - quite disappointing compared to other divisions and banks.
The Culture
Made good friends with the other IPs, with regular social events being organised.
Reasonable.
Nightlife not great in Canary Wharf, but easy access to Central/City/Shoreditch etc.
Placement students were treated like full-time employees, being invited to take part in corporate challenges, sports teams, volunteering days and more.
