    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed Citi as an introduction to finance; primarily enjoyed the social aspects of the firm and being at the beginning of the credit crunch.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team was very busy but tried to keep me included/busy when they could; however, the head of the floor did not recognise me at a networking event about 9 weeks in to a 10 week placement, despite the fact I had been working in close proximity to his desk (he asked me which firm I was working at).

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very busy and constantly in and out of the office; however, I have been able to rely on him for recommendations and references since leaving Citi and when he had the time/opportunity to speak to me, would. Always very grateful for the work I did do.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Relative to other interns, my day-to-day amount of work was very small; was always allowed an hour for lunch. This was largely due to my desk being too busy to give me anything of my own.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Everything I worked on was sent to the desk secretary for proofreading before it was sent on to the rest of the desk; moreover, as I said earlier, the desk was too busy, and/or did not trust me, to give me any more work.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Not necessarily any specific technical skills but the name of Citi - and the experience of being at such a large bank - have helped me in my placement this summer.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Team very banterous - possibly owing to the long hours they spent together?

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • No complaints here - HR was very organised in regards to arranging mid-point and end-of-summer reviews.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Paid a ridiculous amount for an intern; attended several intern-only events and received loads of stash.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • At the moment, not very good!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Went out almost every Thursday/Friday with the other interns on my floor. I know of four former interns who are now all living together in London.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Canary Wharf was very reasonable; lived in Waterloo during the placement which was slightly expensive rent-wise (£240/wk) but my salary ably covered it.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Would go for a few drinks in CW and then invariably to the West End to go out. CW was mostly bankers/lawyers out, which would be OK - never felt the area was dodgy, despite leaving CW around 12am at times.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Besides going out, not really...

    1/5
