    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The office is really nice, and it is on one of the best places in Budapest. I had a very comfortable chair (which is important for a software developer) and a computer with two 20" TFT monitor (this is nice to have :D). We had free to use coffee machines with excellent coffee and great breakout rooms.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everybody was very nice to me, we went together to have a lunch almost every day, sometimes we had social team events in the after hours I could talk with them informally about various topics I've never felt that I'm just an intern here and I should stay away from my managers.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a so called "buddy" in the team who I worked the most with. He explained me lots of things about the systems, technologies used at the company, he had a really broad view on software development technologies and he always took his time to share knowledge with me. My other team members were helpful too if I had some problems with database access or privileges. My manager guided me well and he always gave me feedback.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My work at the company was important but not urgent to implement. Therefore there was not any pressure on me to quickly finish it. I could take my time to understand what I'm working on but I've had enough task on as well. Of course I had never to work overtime I could always finish what I wanted till the end of the business hours.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had no any bigger responsibility during the summer but it was important to develop my project well because it can go out to production in a few months and if I flow something in the system that could be huge impact in the future.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained lots of experiences here, I could improve my English skills, because we worked in an international team, I've also seen what does enterprise software development look like, I could improve my database skills, I've met new technologies and approaches here which are very important and widely used in the industry (dependency injection, web services, SOAP, functional programming).

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Generally the atmosphere is excellent everybody has a good relationship with the others. The office itself is quite silent but you can go out to the breakout room if you want to talk with the others or have a coffee together with your team members.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was really well organized the employees of HR department have lots of experience in doing this (for example interviewing, organizing assesment center), and they care about what kind of task would you like to do and they try to put you in a team which work closely to your field of interests (there are separate interviews to find out what are you interested in). They can really give you task during the summer so you'll definitely improve your skills here.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I think the company invested me a lot, I've got a high salary, we had an intensive English course during the summer, and my team tried to involve me in the business process as well. That is why the company wants its interns to come back as full time employers to the company.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, as I mentioned before we had a breakout area and sometimes we had a social events in the after hours.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Budapest is the capital of Hungary so the cost of living is definitely higher than on the countryside, but the salary compensated this, so it was affordable to go out to a pub many times a week.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • In Budapest you have hundreds of pubs and other places to go out 24 hours a day, so if you want to have fun during the night you can have it.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In Budapest there are lots of things to do in your free time, and the company also supported voluntary activities.
