The Role
Great people who made me feel comfortable with my role, were always helpful and ready to answer all my questions. Superb learning curve, the job constantly pushed me out of my comfort zone, which is a very good think for learning.
All people were treating interns as equal co-workers.
I learnt A LOT from my manager, budy and technical mentor. I got extremly lucky with them. Always eager to answer my newbish questions.
Work from 8.30 - 9.00 to 18 - 18.30. 1 hour lunch break, most often than not talks for 1-2 hours per day (sometimes during lunch break though :( )
I wrote a functionality which was depandent by clients and was responsible for the whole life-cycle of the project (except from maintaining it, hehehe, poor guy who is). I was not running the company though.
Skills for life, espiecially for a computer scientist. You really learn a lot from your internship. And its not only the IT skills you develop. Doing an internship in an investment bank is really a life expirience: exposure to the corporate culture, all events around it, working in Canary Wharf etc.
The Company
People were quite relaxed and very friendly to each other, often joking, talking about job-unrelated stuff etc. They were serious about their job, though.
HR is doing a pretty good job. You always know about the upcoming events, you are well aware of where you need to be etc. Its not like you come to your desk and your manager wonders about who the heck are you. Everyone is well informed about new intern coming and in most cases you meet or speak with your manager a couple of weeks before your placement starts and he informs you about your project.
We had a very good 1-day introduction to capital markets and also two or three IT relates sessions. We also had team building activities and many interesting talks (both IT related and investment-banking centric).

The Culture
Its quite expensive, but its London after all. Actually, some pubs in Canary Wharf are cheaper then, say, South Kensington. I recommend Cat and Canary (very good London Pride, they have some higly-rated beers as well, at least as far as widely-distributed beers are concerned). The are is magnificent with many pubs around. If you want something different, its London, you have maaany oppurtunities.
Pubs open until 11-12 (and tube working till 12, I think) so after that most people move to central London or go home.
