The Role
The work I performed was very interesting and varied, providing me with a thorough understanding of many of the different areas that the company is involved with. In only 9 weeks, I carried out extensive work and was trusted to complete tasks on my own
I felt that my colleagues trusted me completely and allowed me to perform difficult tasks on my own. However, they were always there for when I did need help. I felt valued and even from day one, I was asked for my engineering expertise to help optimise operating conditions.
My supervisors were very supportive and they helped me whenever I needed.
Some days were exceedingly busy, yet some days, were less busy. On the whole, a good balance of work was achieved.
I was given much responsibility and felt completely trusted to perform tasks, but help was always on hand if I needed.
The majority of work I performed was different to my degree discipline and there was not a great amount of mechanical engineering involved, however I learnt very valuable skills which are important in general engineering and in any professional organisation. Many of the skills I learnt are transferrable to all walks of life.
The Company
The office atmosphere was very relaxed and jovial but everyone still worked hard and did not distract me from my work. It was the perfect balance of a relaxed atmosphere whilst working hard to achieve targets.
On the whole, the organisation was very good, but on one occasion, many members of staff went away on business at the same time. This was not a huge issue as there was work to be carrying on with in their absence.
The company sent me on a course and offered tours of factories to aid my understanding of the work I performed and how it combined with other deparments. They provided an exceedingly large amount of training even despite my placement only lasting 9 weeks.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
I was provided with much information about the graduate training scheme.
The Culture
There were many other placement students working at the company and the social scene between us all was great, regularly meeting up after work and at the weekends.
I lived at home during my placement which aided my financial situation. The socialising costs are fairly typical of anywhere else in the UK.
N/A. I am not particularly interested in a busy nightlife.
With the other placement students, many activities were held outside of work at the weekends and living near many cities, there was much scope for these activities.
