    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working in research and development enhanced many skills for my future career, however the role was not as science related as I would have liked.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was trained to manage my own projects and report results back to colleagues, and any feedback I produced was always respected and well received.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was excellent, he was very innovative and passionate about his placement students, and throughout the year he was extremely supportive on many occasions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was busy for around 8 months of the placement year, in the last few months I had very little to keep me busy.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The main project I completed during the placement year was managed by me in which I ordered new equipment and chemicals as well as planning and carrying out my own experiments.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement year won't benefit me in my degree as it was not really related. However it was genuinely invaluable experience for any future career, as working for a global company provides you a vast amount of professional skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and welcoming.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • At times my work was very well managed but at other times I had very little to do.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company entered placement students into relevant exams and paid all the fees, as well as investing in equipment for my projects.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Personally for me I wouldn't return into the industry, but many of the placement students will.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I lived with fellow placement students so I had a very good social life over the entire year.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very cheap area to live.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Burton is not very good, for a student night you would need to go Derby, however this still was not very good compared to my university city.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 5 a side football was played weekly.

    3/5
