    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My project was interesting, was focused to adding value to a particular unit within a department and gave me room to shape it. The facilities on site were great and the cost of living in India relative to the UK made life very affordable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very welcoming atmosphere which encouraged individual initiative and ideas.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had three 'supervisors': a project mentor, student mentor and buddy, all of whom made time for me and responded when I needed assistance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The pace and speed of work could vary depending on whether I needed to consult with my mentor, but generally consistent.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was fully responsible for my own project, and generally trusted to get on with it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Useful corporate exposure, insight into an emerging economy and foreign business culture together with an understanding how a large company tends to function.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was in a large building but surrounded with fellow interns, the coffee was free and colleagues interesting and supportive.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I knew the basic parameters of the project before I arrived, but a degree of latitude did remain for it to be further shaped upon arrival. The structure was clear, and the efforts made to welcome and familiarise me into the company were comprehensive.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All of the resources I needed were quickly sourced for me, including the scheduling of conference calls. Formal training opportunities were available together with the chance to interact with Senior Management.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very few interns tend to receive job offers directly from the internship program and the company employs the overwhelming majority of its staff in India.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Large international team, sufficient night-life, team-based travel opportunities were arranged every weekend.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in India, even in a city, was dramatically lower than that in the UK. On site, it was easy to have a meal for less than UKS1.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightspots were sufficient, but tended to be one hour's drive away. Closing times also tended to be earlier than customary in the West.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Staff functions were held for the whole company and intern-specific workshops were also regularly held. Outside of the company, travel opportunities and activities were very easy to come by.

    5/5
