    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Learnt a lot about the corporate world, such great opportunities to get involved in big projects and work with some really great experienced people who are always happy to get you involved and learning. There are also lots of other industrial placement students which all try to live together in the area which can make work and social life a lot more fun.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As the role involved coordinating the team who spend most of their time out of the office, they relied on me to keep track of everyone and keep them updated of any complaint trends or anything out of the ordinary. I did feel a bit excluded from the team at times as they would each have their own projects with suppliers and I wasn't always involved in this.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I would often have one to one sessions with my line manager who would listen to what I wanted to get out of the placement and would try to make them happen. I always felt that there was someone to ask for help in the team if my line manager was not available.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would have many tasks to complete on a weekly and monthly basis, but I felt that if I didn't keep asking for work to do I would have been twiddling my thumbs a lot more. Though when I was given tasks to do, I felt needed in the team and had great fun.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility in organising monthly events for the team, ordering stock and sending invitations. I was also in charge of handling confidential information and also dealing with suppliers and restaurant complaints and issues.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt a lot about how to cope with an office environment and how to deal with certain situations in a commercial environment.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In Supply Chain, everyone was in good spirit and I found some people were really happy to help me out with any situation and tried to get me involved with as many projects and meetings as possible. We would also have team away days which were great.. when they actually happened! Unfortunately, my team were hardly in the office so I would rely on other teams for company but that was okay as I made friends with those around me. We also attend many social events organised by the company which was a great excuse to dress up and have fun with everyone!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As a company in whole, the fact there are so many different placements I think it is great. Though when it came to advertising the role this year, it took far too long to put it up for advertisement and it could be advertised better and easier on the website.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I received a 3 day training programme near the start of the placement, and the potential of training and development is really good. Unfortunately, when I wanted to do a training course I would have other commitments so I missed out on a lot.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to come back to McDonald's as they are a very good company to work for. There are lots of departments not only QA that I would be interested in joining. I also liked the fact that they have dress down Fridays and have summer working hours.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The placement students would all socialize together and there is a pub across from work that people from work would visit after work which had a great social scene.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Generally living in London is expensive, but I managed to live comfortably.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area isn't great, as once the pub shuts there is nothing else going on except Dominoes. Though night buses run through the area so going into town for a night out is really easy.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I got involved in a lot of charity work for the RMHC which the other IPs got involved too. We would also organise days out and go to the pub together after work

    3/5
