    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Unfortunately the internship did not meet my expectations

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My experiences were varied

    1/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My experiences were varied. One or two people per team were willing to sit down and provide comprehensive guidance and support, but these people were rarely management/supervisors. This was disappointing because the internship coincided with a relatively quiet period because of the geopolitical climate, so I felt that management/supervisors could have showed more interest

    1/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was never truly busy given that I never had a completely full day during my internship. On some days I didn't receive any tasks, whereas on other days I was frustratingly often given tasks mid-afternoon that had to be distributed in the evening. Overall I would of liked to have received more work

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was entrusted with some bespoke work that involved communicating with clients & producing work that would be sent across Citi. I would have liked to have been more involved in deals that were occurring whilst I was on the desk. If I had been given more responsibility I think I would have gotten more out of the experience

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This depends on what line of work I choose to pursue going forward; my work was mostly markets-focused, which could support me in a trading or research role. My Excel, VBA & PowerPoint skills improved considerably over the course of the internship and I could see these skills being an asset to jobs outside of banking

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Colleagues rarely said good morning although some colleagues were friendly. There were some colleagues that I felt did not cope well with the stress they were under, which made them difficult to approach. The atmosphere largely depended on what desk one was on within the division, with some desks taking a more collaborative approach than others

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was aware of events going on during my internship (both events dedicated to my internship and events that catered for all Citi employees). I would have liked to have seen more social events over the course of the internship, and Citi could perhaps be more innovative with the types of events they hosted for the interns

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week of the internship was dedicated to training in one of Citi's computer labs near the top of the building, overlooking the entirety of London. Despite this investment, much of the training was irrelevant to my business area. I also received Bloomberg, FactSet and Dealogic training whilst at the desk, which was very helpful

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects not good in the near term; perhaps in the future

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the interns typically worked different hours to one another, which made socialising and planning group meals difficult. All interns happily had a few drinks at the bars near the office in the evening when they could get out of work, and we often met up at weekends for social gatherings

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very, very expensive. Finding short term accommodation in London comes at a premium price. From the experiences of other interns, if you pay cheap you forgo things such as security and may live in an undesirable area. You will have greater chance of getting good accommodation with a good network of contacts in London. The cost of socialising was also extortionate

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Canary Wharf has a few bars that stay open beyond midnight, but it is certainly not famed for its nightlife. Thankfully with Canary Wharf being closely connected to the Underground, DLR, and Overground rail services it was relatively painless to travel to another part of London for nightlife when needs be

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wasn't aware of many activities that Citi partook in outside of work. Many of my colleagues took time to attend the gym three or four times a week. Outside of Citi, London of course has plenty of activities to offer that you could partake in on a whim, but not attend an activity on a regular basis on a weekday may be a challenge given the unpredictability of the working hours
