I enjoyed the whole experience a lot as it was geared towards our enjoyment and socialising with others. The week away was the best part of the experience because we were taking part in great outdoor activities throughout the whole week. The fact we were able to do this with our closest friends made it even better. I enjoy making new friends personally so the whole experience was great for me as I met so many new people.
I really enjoy working with young people, and seeing all of the inspiring things that they can do and achieve. The NCS gives staff the opportunities to work with a varied demographic, as well as visit places they themselves, may never have had the opportunity to visit before. At times, however NCS can become a bit predictable, especially if you have worked for them for a while. The placements can be repetitive and at times stagnant.
NCS the challenge is an incredible charity for young people to become more confident and independent. I loved the concept itself it was just sometimes the job itself could be a bit tedious and there was sometimes poor communication. Working with the young people was such a rewarding aspect of the job as it allowed you to see them all grow as individuals
I really enjoyed the work - I was given loads of responsibility and I learnt so much, both from the training beforehand, and whilst actually on the placement. I also really enjoy working with young people – it was great to be able to see them learn and develop under my instruction.
I thought it was absolutely incredible. So much so that I've been back and done it again 8 times since.. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It was the most rewarding experience and it truly changed me as a person for the better. It's something that I know I will do again some day.
Working on NCS The Challenge was an incredible experience! This is due to the people I worked with and the pleasure in watching the young people grow individually and as a team. The energy provided by the young people made it an absolute pleasure coming into work every day (even if I was completely exhausted!). I definitely enjoyed it.
I enjoyed my experience with NCS. This being my second year of being in the role of a Senior Mentor, leading a group of young people through the program and taking care of behavioural issues, supporting individuals both motivational for the challenges set and pastoral. The role is very challenging, especially for first time SM's, but a very rewarding experience to see the progress of the team, and to be able to facilitate the youth led leadership that developed through the program. Supporting individuals who may have arrived shy and have personal fears, such as public speaking, was also very rewarding, as they grow in confidence and participate in a public speaking pitch at the end of the program. I returned because whilst there are many challenging moments, it is a very rewarding and alternative summer job to working in retail.
NCS provide a summer program that is so action packed and so much fun for the young people and the staff. Although it is a job, you are getting involved in all the activities and interacting with the young people and other staff members. It's really rewarding to watch the young people develop new skills and friendships over the program as well as developing your own skills.
The Programme Administrator summer role had a large workload but was manageable with strong time management skills. There was a good variety of work from printing and filing to more physical work in the store-room, so it was good to not be sat at a desk all day. Overall, I really enjoyed the role and would recommend it to a student looking for a well-paid summer job.
The experience was intense working on the waves but really enjoyable. The atmosphere created heavily relies on the staff teams relationships and attitudes. There was a lot of work and late nights which is okay as long as you can rely on the other people working around you. Loved the structure of the three weeks and the continuity of developing one group throughout that period.
NCS with The Challenge offered an experience that developed so many skill-sets in one placement. I was able to meet a variety of people from seasonal staff working directly on the programme, to professional and charity partners that we interact with as part of the programme. It was a totally unique experience and I have completed over 10 of these placements now as I have been able to progress through the roles each year. Being a seasonal staff member is very intensive however it is the most rewarding job I have ever had as you are on the ground and get to directly see the impact you have on the young people that take part.
Working face to face with young people for three weeks was a very intense environment to operate in, but was overall really rewarding and I felt I contributed to the long term development of my team's lives.
