I enjoyed the winter vacation scheme at Hogan Lovells immensely. The presentations and workshops were well chosen, well organised, and enlightening. The Induction Workshop with Brad Waldron was particularly unforgettable – it was an effective way of breaking the ice, and of providing motivation and direction so that the students may have the best chance of accomplishing their goals and enjoying their work over the following weeks.
The experience was fantastic. As a summer vacation scheme student, I was welcomed fully into the working life of the firm and had the opportunity to complete various interesting tasks, ranging from legal research to helping with drafting contracts to writing letters to clients. Furthermore, the array of social activities were invaluable in getting to know the other vacation scheme students and trainees at the firm, so the experience was not solely work but rather a brilliant presentation of Hogan Lovells and the opportunities that it offers.
The vac scheme was genuinely really enjoyable - the firm made it clear that we were not 'competing' with each other for a TC and I think this was reflected in how friendly everyone was. The socials were so much fun (Escape Rooms and Flight Club) and it was great to see everyone get really involved (even the current trainees joined!) At the end of the day it is the people you meet who make the experience - we all went out for drinks after our TC interviews which is something I would never have expected!
I very much enjoyed the insight! The work was really varied and I was able to meet many different people at the firm. Everyone was extremely friendly and approachable and made me feel at home straight away. There was also plenty of social activities and opportunities to ask questions. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking about a career in law. In particular, the presentations with Chris Stoakes and the opportunities to sit in three different departments were the highlights of the insight.
The insight was extremely enjoyable because of the company of my fellow law undergraduates from across England, as well as the insightful activities designed to give us a taste of life as a commercial solicitor. As it was held during the Easter vacation, it was a wonderful yet productive break from revision.
The experience was definitely worth the time and effort spent throughout the application process. The scheme allowed me to step inside an international law firm and see what actually happens beyond the official brochures and websites. The insight scheme was informative, focused, fun and above all, very welcoming - an apt reflection of the firm itself. You can expect introductory talks on life in a law firm, commercial awareness talks/seminars, scheduled one-on-one interactions with firm employees, and a dinner with partners. For those who wish to apply, you will have to prepare well but it is definitely worth the time.
The scheme was extremely enjoyable, much of this was down to the people at the firm at all levels, everyone was welcoming and helpful. There was a good variety of work which was interesting and at times challenging, and there was a variety of different workshops to give us an insight into the firm, and refine different skills that lawyers at the firm would need to use. There was a good amount of socials, which involved going on a rib boat on the Thames, dinner at the Ivy and drinks at various places which was ideal for getting to know the other vac schemers and trainees.
- Very enjoyable vacation scheme. - Fantastic opportunity to gain experience in 3 different areas of the firm. - The work that I was assigned during the vacation scheme was varied and very interesting in nature. - We were required to attend a number of insightful workshops which included: a corporate case study, a cross examination advocacy session, a pro bono presentation etc.
The week was brilliant! Every workshop had the right balance of listening and interactive activities coupled with very interesting people who led the sessions. The insight gave a real flavour of what it would be like to be a trainee at Hogan Lovells as there was the opportunity to get involved in trainee tasks during the work shadowing sessions.
The week-long first year vacation scheme at Hogan Lovells was very enjoyable. They provided us with a good mix of both informative presentations, interactive skills sessions and work shadowing opportunities. The former told us much about what Hogan Lovells does and discussed many case studies to show examples of the types of work they get involved in. The interactive skills sessions allowed each of us on the scheme to get to know one another well (you soon get very friendly and we spent a couple of evenings together at a firm meal or going out into London as a group).
