Placement (10 Months+)

I am 11 months through my Placement with Travelport as the Product Intern. This has seen me placed on the Product Management team for NDC development. My role mainly revolves around managing, analyzing, and reporting on the defects, taking part in shaping the roadmaps, being an integral part of Travelport’s PI Planning system, working with other members of the company from around the globe. There was plenty of pieces of extra work to pick up along the way as I was kept in touch by my team and manger. As a result, I developed a number of skills including but not limited to presenting in front of a number of people, becoming more comfortable with excel, and reporting data in a corporate environment.

As well as this, Travelport provide a unique intern experience through the use of their Internpreneurship program which gives us interns the opportunity to explore ourselves with business challenges outside of our day-to-day activities. This involved presenting in small groups to large customers and big figures around the business with ideas we have researched and collated ourselves. Alongside this, we were given the opportunity to raise money for charity through the CSR initiatives provided. This in fact saw me scale the alps in aid of Save the Children, a real highlight of the year.

A challenge I found without the internship would involve the communication between those running the internship and us interns ourselves. There was a slight feeling that this could have been more consistent throughout our time here which may have made the year even more enjoyable.

For the next cohort of Travelport interns, my biggest piece of advice would be to chuck yourselves in to everything set out in front of you. Travelport provides a unique experience where you are able to explore the world of business without too much holding you back. The best parts of my year have been when I’ve gone out on a limb and asked about certain pieces of work, or adventures that were slightly outside of my comfort zone.
