    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved it! I couldn't have asked for a better placement. Each and every day I was using the skills that I'd learned on my degree course. I loved having the power to decide which items Debenhams stores would be stocking.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were great. They gave me enough freedom to make decisions on my own but also gave me enough guidance so that I didn't feel out of my depth.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The management team were incredible too. They were always on hand if I needed anything. I was also in regular contact with the main manager and discussed my progress with him weekly.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had enough work to keep me motivated without feeling too under pressure. I appreciated that the manager understood that I could only do my best and sometimes that meant that I took my time with things and my workload built up.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My team were responsible for making sure that Debenhams' stock continued to be of a high quality so I think that we had a lot of responsibility within the company. If we'd have slacked then perhaps the company wouldn't still be as successful as it currently is.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement really helped me with the last year of my degree. I graduated with a better degree class because of the placement for sure.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • People were friendly and happy most of the time. It was definitely a nice atmosphere to work in.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well. It was quick and easy which is all you can ask for really.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I definitely felt like the company supported me and had placed a lot of trust in me. But I never received any personal training. I had to rely on the skills that I had learned at university.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I haven't received a job offer from the company but I would gladly work there. It's a great organization to work for.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Whilst everyone was friendly, my colleagues were definitely more concerned with their work than making friends. There wasn't many chances to socialize at all.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is crazily expensive. If you decided to live in the city center then you can forget about having a social life.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • On the rare night out that I had, I found London to be an incredible night out. I loved the vast selection of bars and clubs.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There wasn't many opportunities. Throughout my whole placement I could count the number of social events I was invited to on one hand.

    2/5
