    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am pleased that I have been given responsibility to work on projects which will make a huge difference to the future of Accenture. Addtionally, the social side of the internship has been great. I have enjoyed the events that the Entry Level Programme team have put on for all of the interns, including the Graduate Sports Day and Graduate Ball. Overall, I have had a great 10 weeks!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It has been great that everyone has valued the interns at Accenture. We have had meetings with all of the directors in the department in order to introduce ourselves and find out about their areas. In these meetings I could see that even the directors were genuinely interested in us.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My immediate managers were very approachable and supportive and I felt that my work was valued. I was left to get on with things by myself, but felt that I always had the support there if I needed it or if I had any queries people were happy to help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My role was very varied in nature so how busy I was changed on a daily basis. I did have certain core tasks to complete on certain days and times but the extra tasks varied greatly, often according to how busy the sellers on my team were and where in the year we were. Some days were quite slow, but you could use this time to do other activities etc, it is a very flexible way of working.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility from the start, Accenture is definitely a company where you have to be comfortable working independently and I felt like I gained a lot of self-motivation and have become a lot better with my organizational skills as a result of this. However, I think the level of responsibility definitely depends on the relationships you have built with your colleagues and how comfortable you are in your job.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely feel experienced in an office environment now and ready to go into a graduate job, I feel like I have picked up a lot of skills that will be of help in the future. I think a placement is an excellent way to gain experience and Accenture has been particularly good with all the free education materials and education days it provides.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was a great place to work. I have been able to have fun with my team, but also put my head down and work when I need to. The fact that you can walk up to anyone in the office and ask them a question, without emailing them and formally scheduling time in their diary, is great.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was generally well organised. My first couple of weeks in the office were less so, because my project brief had changed twice and it had not been fully explained to me. However, now that I have been in the company for 10 weeks, I understand that my project brief had to change because it was no longer in the company's best interest. At this point I learn how fast-paced and changing retail is, and that is was the nature of the project that caused it to seem disorganised, rather than a lack of organisation/preparation for my arrival in the office.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have had scheduled meeting with my assigned Personnel manager. This has been a good way to talk about my personal development during the course of the internship.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship is a direct route to the graduate scheme - something that was vital for me. You have 10 weeks working on a project and you must deliver/present it to a Director and a couple of managers. After your 10 minutes is up, you'll have an interview where they assess whether you are a right fit for the company or not.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. We had a good relation between all the internship students. Even though we were based in different offices around UK, we would regularly speak to one another to resolve any queries or just to catch up with one another. During the Annual Ball, we managed to spend time with one another and bonded quite well.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I live in London, I was lucky not to pay for rent, but due to the Central London location, the rent would be very expensive. Also, socialising around the river (where the office is located) is quite pricey, but there were a few restaurants around that were reasonable too.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is fantastic. Not only is there a great variety of music, but there are many things to do apart from clubbing, for example viewing London by night.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many socials that I went for with graduates from the company, but apart from the socials, there weren't many events advertised in the office to take part in.
